Does anyone know about the good and bad points of Strangles vaccine. The vets around here don't routinely give it. Only if your horse is going to an event or places where horses come and go.

Try logging on to www.horsehealthusa.com they will send you a catalog or you can order vaccines on-line. I have used their vaccines, including strangles, for 8 yrs without any reactions and they are very quick to get an order out to you. They have a lot of other horse products also. Opinions vary on how effective any vaccine can be but I feel that an ounce of prevention..........you know the rest. A strangles titer (blood test) taken by your vet can tell you whether your horse has been exposed and the level of exposure....(high, moderate, low). They will probalby have to send the blood work to a equine lab so there may be an additional expense to you. Good Luck
