Hello, I have a single battery on my trailer, not sure how old it is but I have owned the trailer for 3 years and have not replaced the battery. It charges but doesn't last very long if using the battery for lights. If I need to replace it, would you recommend a marine battery? Just get it from the farm store? Thanks Joan

I needed batteries for each of my trailers. A little time spent on the internet resulted in a substantial savings from the farm store and free shipping. Just type in the model # of your present battery and you'll find several pricings that will vary depending on the quality and warranties.

Batteries come in several flavors. A marine battery is a compromise between starting (high current draw) and deep cycle. For trailer lights I would purchase a deep draw type battery. Running a battery down to its last amp of energy is damaging to a regular starting battery. I learned this the hard and expensive way.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about emergency brake batteries. For the the LQs and boats, we use the best Duralast marine batteries. They have excellent life spans and if needed, good warranties

We have been traveling for many years with our horses & mules thru out several states.
After a battery problem many years ago, I started using batteries from Walmart as they are in most cities and I have never had a problem with them replacing a battery.
I place the receipt in a ziplock bag and tape it to the battery so never a problem.

Whenever I purchase a wet cell battery, I take it, or write down its measurements or the type # to the battery dealer. Usually he will have several batteries available in that size. If it's for a boat or LQ, I will specify a need for his best deep cycle marine battery. If it's for starting a vehicle, whether it's for a truck or riding lawn mower, I wiil also ask for for the best unit the dealer offers.
There will be differences in the batteries, with their storage amps and warranties guiding their purchase pricing.
Generally speaking, the higher the number of the cold cranking amps and the longer the warranties, will escalate the purchasing prices. If the installation is for a unit that will soon be replaced, a more inexpensive battery will do the job. If it will be installed in a vehicle that you intend to retain for some time, the best battery available should be your choice.
Because I use many different installations, cars, trucks, boats, lawn equipment, and LQs, I do not keep a manufacturers' part number for each battery. My longtime boss does a great job of cataloging all the pertinent information and keeping it available if it's needed.. Usually the dealer knows the size when ever I mention it's usaage.
There are several good brands of batteries that are available. Having a nearby dealer that takes an interest in your needs, that sells a brand that is available nationwide is an ideal situation. If you have a no start when, by your self in the boonies, is not a good time to think about any savings you might have had. Nothing is perfect, but doing your best with a dealer, that knows he likely will have a return customer if he's pleased, often makes for an ideal relationship.
