The white paint on my 02 Elite trailer is oxidized,  I can touch it and have paint come off on my finger.  Just got the trailer last fall and it has probably never been waxed before. It is my intention to wax it this spring.
However, there are so many choices for wax that I need a recomendation from you.   There are marine waxes, auto waxes, liquid wax, paste wax and on and on.   I am afraid of getting a wax that is too agressive and might cut through the paint to the aluminum.  Also, does paste wax yellow over time?
Thank you
Joan

Certainly not an expert, but somewhat familiar with older paint. If you can wipe off the paint with your fingertip, the paint has been damaged by UV light. A good marine fiberglass/aluminum wax will remove the dead paint and provide UV protection for what is left. These waxes are available in paste and liquid forms, and are available at marinas or the internet. Depending upon how old and damaged the paint is, will determine how much will be removed during the waxing process. You may end up with bare metal spots if the damage is severe. If you have a wool bonnet andf a buffer, the liquid forms work very well, and willl save a great deal of time  and effort during the waxing process.

If one had a brand new painted aluminum trailer and could only park it outside in the sun. What would be the best way to prevent the paint from getting oxidized? i.e. how often wash/wax/etc?

Apply a marine grade wax that has a high UV ingredient. This will not only clean the surface, but will protect the paint and lower the degrading effects of the sunlight. It will also help keep the paint from surface dirt and stains. The marine grade waxes are more resistant to washing out and will withstand the weather quite well.

How often should I wax it? Do I wash it first or just wax?

Wash it first, then wax. Rewax when it no longer feels "slippery and clean". This will vary depending on your weather and sunlight exposure. IE: one to six months
