So, I am currently looking at what looks to be an immaculate 2004 Exiss Sport 3H trailer with a full LQ in it.  Aside from being dated and used, the trailer is nearly spotless aside from a scuff on the floor of the bathroom, a slightly corroded rack in the fridge and corroded looking gas tanks on the front of the trailer which would obviously be replaced.  It's also one of the few LQ trailers, of any brand I've looked at used, that didn't have a modly or musty smell in it.  No leaks from what I can tell in the horse area too.  It's currently on a dealership intake lot, so it hasn't been cleaned or picked over yet, but that will happen if I move forward with interest in this trailer.  Whoever the previous owner was, they took care of this trailer.  Unless the dealership finds something wrong, I will very likely get this trailer so I'm trying to find reviews and specs.  So far, I have found good and bad reviews for the Sport line made by Exiss, but none that can really single out any specific model or year.  I also cannot find a spec sheet on it anywhere tho, not even the Exiss website has one available.  Ultimately the dealership will have to have this for me this week, if I can get out there in between my busy work schedule.  My previous experience with Exiss is good, so even when I do read the bad reviews, I'm left scratching my head and wondering, HOW?

Also, should I get this trailer, I am going to have the dealership modify it for me and put a ramp on the back or install 4 tier blanket bar and a a "pull out" saddle tree instead of the stationary one that is in there.  Or, I might have the install all three.  The trailer is only the 7ft wide version and most of the trailers that I have looked at that had the blanket racks and pull out tree were 8ft.  Will a blanket bar and "pull out" saddle tree work for a trailer that is 7ft wide?  Or will it just cause problems?

My intended use for this trailer is to go the local shows, but occaionally do a multi state haul once or twice a year for job relocation.  Other than that, it will stay parked at the barn.

Had a 06 Sport 18' Gooseneck stock. Issues in `10 years and prob 50k miles of mostly ranch use-
Factory tires where junk.
Hinges all replaced on gates as they froze up.
Nose sheet (on both sides) ended up wearing out the rivets attaching them to the nose frame in about a dozen places due to flexing. Replaced with bolts.
Lights all replaced as faded and rusted.
Several cracked welds.
Bent framing on escape door that had to professional repaired. Just due to pressure from cows inside trailer I would guess?

Depending on how much you will use it, it might work fine. If you put 20k a year on it, probably not. They are built really light in the side walls, roof framing, gates, doors, framing. I never had any problems with the floor.

No idea on the LQ part of it.

Good luck.

Not sure when Universal Trailers bought Exiss, but if it was after 2004, specs and drawings may not be available.

I have specs for a 2005. I don't believe there is any difference. Is it a Is it a ES307, ES310 or maybe a 307 or 310 GLQ?

Thank you for the replies.  The trailer will very likely be pulled less than 20K per year and will generally always be pulled on paved roads.  This model did not seem to have any rivets trying to back out of the body anywhere from what I recall looking at.  The welds also still looked solid.

I do have a VIN number for the trailer now, but was not given the exact model number.  The one it is listed by on the website is incorrect and I had to bring that to the dealer's attention.  Is there a way we can read the VIN like a car to get the exact details?

It is a 3 horse model with a 7ft shortwall.  Seperate potty and shower, 7ft wide and a total body length of 29 feet.

Ok, based on this, I think it is the ES307 model since it does appear to have a hydraulic jack as well.  I didn't even pay attention to that when I looked at it to start with.

The VIN is going to tell you the length, the number of axles, and the year it was manufactured. That's all. Why don't you make a phone call to Universal Trailers with the VIN number and if they built it that will get you the best information. Sometimes the interior living quarters are installed "in house" by the manufacturer of the trailer shell, and sometimes a separate conversion company has finished the interior. That would be good information to have. I was hoping RTSmith would chime in with some info. He has been around for a long time and has likely forgotten more than any of the rest of us know.

I didn't think about calling the manufacturer.  I'll try to do that tomorrow.  The living quarter was put in by Sierra LQ; I'm not sure if they do that in house with Exiss or if they ship the trailer shells to Sierra.

As far as the tack combo situation at the back of the trailer, does anybody have any input on that?

Well, to my utter and shear dissapointment, I opted to not go with this trailer.  Financing is a world different and better if you go with a new trailer over one that is 14 years old even if you are talking near identical terms.  The rates just are unreal and I feel I would end up spending just as much on this trailer as I would a new trailer in the long run.  Thanks to everybody who chimed in and posted what they knew to help me.

Sometimes an older well built and cared for trailer is a better investment than a new unit that is built to sell for a lower price point. Good luck in your search.

Thanks Kay!
Seriously- I am not sure exactly what kind of specs you may be looking for. Frankly- even in 2004 there weren't a lot out there. Sierra did the "authorized" interiors for Exiss at that time, and those trailers were pretty neat little units. They were aimed at the entry level market, and many of them are still on the road today with happy owners.

I do believe you'll find it too narrow for a swing out saddle rack. Just not enough space available.

I understand about the financing. It is a 14 year old trailer, so banks are not usually interested in holding a note on something that may be 24 years old when it pays out. Hard to decide the proper route sometimes.

To update.... I went ahead and purchased a 2003 Exiss Event 3H GN trailer with the intention of having a pro conversion company install a LQ up front for me after I pay the trailer off next year.  It has a larger than usual dressing room and the trailer itself is extremely well maintained with the exception of a few black smudge marks here and there from tack swinging on the walls.  I feel like this will be the best route to go so I can have a new, modern LQ without paying for it for an extended amount of time.

I have a 05 Exiss Event with LQ and am very pleased with it. So hard to find a LQ setup these days that is what you actually want. Sounds like you've got it covered. Good luck and I'd love to hear updates on how your conversion goes.
