I'm in the early stages of planning this trip, and realise i really want a companion with whom to share the journey.
Does anyone know where i could look for or find a list of folks wanting to join up on horseback journeys?
My plan is to explore some of the southwest on horseback for a few months next winter.  I'm open to a bit of very primitive camping, maybe teven ake my camper off grid too, and/or stay at a bed, barn and breakfast if possible.
I have the rig and pony, just going alone doesnt sound as fun, you know?

Facebook has some good groups that are nationwide -  like Horse Trails and Camping across America.

Do you  have a group of friends that you ride with regularly near your home?
Maybe a friend would enjoy the whole trip.

None of my riding buddies are in a position to take off from their lives for 2-3 months. My husband was excited to do this triip with me, but he lost the battle with cancer and I am now getting ready to try again.

My condolences on the loss of your husband... Glad that you're living on.

The first consideration is finding suitable riding buddies with compatible horses. Gaited or not is a huge consideration. It's hard to have a conversation when someone is either way ahead or way behind or fighting a beast the whole ride. We have several dear friends, but their horse is not happy when we're riding together.

So, be on the look-out for similar horse owners as yourself.

Happy riding

Ditto what Hosspuller said. Glad you are ready to resume your travels, and I hope you find some folks to travel with. When we camp, Hubby doesn't ride, but I always manage to find some people to hit the trails with. I don't like to do new foreign terrain alone the first few times out. I also agree that it's not always easy finding someone who will go your speed. Best of luck in your travels. Happy Trails.

You might try "Women on the Edge Trail Riders"   You might be able to meet up with various groups at wrangler camps on your route.

If you know you will be at a certain camp on certain days, post here.  Kentucky and Indiana have wonderful state parks with wrangler camps.  Best wishes for a great trip.

Look into "Red Hats and Purple Chaps". I believe they are a national group. They are also on Facebook. Is there a Saddle Club near you? That's another place to meet like minded riders. Also , you might try  riding regularly at a State Park if there is one near you. I now have several groups of ladies I ride with and some groups with couples and families. Too bad you are so far away, I'd invite you to join us. God Bless

If you are on Facebook, check out Hags on Nags or Old Cowgirls Don't Die .... (etc) - both are good groups for meeting others that want to ride.

I see, that's a good way to learn a lot from a fellow camper too.

A friend of mine told me about this trip, there were 10 of them. I'll try to find out from him where he found the company.

I've been looking for someone to travel with for 10 years. No success.
Good luck.
