I installed a Coleman Mach low profile air conditioner on my Platinum trailer June of 2015. Two weeks ago I needed it and it would not blow cool air. I removed the lid and found that the copper tube that goes from the compressor to the condenser was broken. I have contacted Coleman and they said that because I installed it, there is no warranty?? AND that because horse trailers have no suspension I should have purchased the "Roughneck" version. Has anyone had issues with the Mach Coleman A/C units?

You could get an HVAC guy to repair the copper connection and recharge the system...that's not to say it won't fail again...but it might be cheaper than replacing the unit...:)

That is what I am thinking of doing.. I am assuming that Coleman will not honor the warranty .. Too bad Coleman cant hire better mannered tech staff.

Well, just chalk this up to a company becoming more dickish...and NOT recommend them in the future...I take it you have the original warranty document...where it states there is no warranty in not installed by a "professional"...if not, you may want to contact Coleman and ask for that warranty document

To add to Paul's post ... Get the a/c repair to replace the dryer too. If the system was open for any time, it absorbed moisture from the air. Moisture is bad for the system, a few bucks for the dryer is a wise investment..

I work for a repair shop and we also build custom living quarters.
We have replaced at least 6 Coleman A/c"s in the last couple months. All had the cracked copper tube just before it enters the condensor coil. I thinkg they have changed their design and the newer units aren't as good. Due to the failures, I think they had to do something to void warranties so they can maintain a profitable bottom line.

Up until now we have preferred Coleman, in part because they are the only one still "made" in the USA.

We recently replaced two that we had installed less than 1 year ago and were surprised, as you were, to hear they would not warranty them due to being installed on a horse trailer. The warranty statement mentions nothing of this but does refer us to their website, where there is one sentence regarding no warranty on a horse trailer unless the trailer has suspension like an RV.

Their warranty personell are rude and unprofessional. We will have to find another A/C provider. Probably Dometic even though their units are built in China. At least Dometic is professional.

Onan recently adopted a similar warranty policy when it comed to horse trailers.

Yea,, I am back at the Coleman rodeo, The second unit failed after 25 hours of use (in about 7 weeks) I have the distinct feeling that the saying "bent over a barrel with sand on it" will apply to me. That will be $1150 flushed down the toilet.. Maybe I should start a class action suit??

I don't see the difference in a horse trailer or a RV. Except trailers might go to rougher places. .? And now Onan?

My wife had a LONG conversation with one of the gals at Outlaw conversions... VERY helpful. We are so happy that they did the interior on the trailer, way out of warranty and still stepping up to the plate to help..

Last line of Coleman warranty:

5.11 This warranty does not cover air conditioner damage or component failures that are the result of
transportation or application vibration.

It says nothing about horse trailers specifically but this line covers everything so if they don't want to pay for something they have a loop hole. These A/C's are specially designed for transportation and to resist vibration.

Sounds to me like it would be a good time to give a lawyer $200 to have him write a few letters.

.

When I added the pictures my text was lost. Below is what was previously in the comments along with the pictures:
I recently took a couple picures.
One is the old design of the Coleman AC showing the long (almost 360 degree) bend they formally included in their design. The other picture shows the short bends they use today. The short bends break at the bend in the copper line where it enters the bottom of the evaporator coil.
