I have a friend who has a mini that is not a year old. Willow's back leg is the problem. She has had a vet out, the farrier said take her up hills to help the leg, Natural healer said she has a pinched nerve in her back (they are working on this) and a chropractor (forgive spelling) will be there in July. Are there Corticosteroid shots for horses. She is on the lowest dosage of pain medicine. I heard of Vitamin B, is there anything else we can do. She will have to be put down - that is the reality, but maybe not.

without being sure of an exact diagnosis of your horse's problem,it's hard to say whether something like that might help or not, and, number one,of course,I am not a vet.But our own experience was this: we have a 16 yr old gelding who was diagnosed with digital Xray to have a bone chip in his rear left fetlock joint. The vet gave him an (expensive) steroid shot along with hyaluronic acid into the joint which has helped, but he told us that he'd need this injection once a year without having arthroscopic surgery to remove the chip.I hope this helps-you should try to find a vet who specializes in lameness issues IMO,to fully diagnosis what the problem is,but fair warning: those vets don't come cheap.

Based on what you say the farrier said I'll assume she has a locking patella which is common in ponies. Your friend really needs a good equine lameness vet. Strengthening the leg often helps but you're talking about a young foal.

Thank you for helping us out with your knowledge. I wrote a message to her about this wonderful site and I hope she will use it. She is blind so I don't know how she works her computer to write or send messages.

Thank you for your wisdom.  My friend is blind and I wrote her about this site.  I'm hoping she can use it in the future but I don't know how she does her messaging.  That is why I wrote to you.

I know most of the state parks here that offer Equine camping, use limestone base in there stalls...never heard anything about any hoof issues.
