Better half lost her job last year and Thank the Lord we have not had to worry about her going back to work yet....

We (she) has been working with horse, been around horse her entire life and has done all the work on the 16 horses we own.  She has now taking in a couple of horses to board and do some training on (come to find out the riders are the problem, not the horse)....

We had a friend call and he is wanting us to get his horse legged up for a big shoot coming up in May.  We will be boarding the horse for 3 weeks, he is going to bring the grain but we are going to furnish the hay and we told him $75.00 per week.....  OMG, he had a fit.  So I broke the price down for him and it comes out to be $10.71 per day for boarding, HAY and riding the horse everyday.  I thought it was way too cheap sincd most places around here charges $20. per ride just to leg up a horse.....

Does this price seem to high or is he just thinking since he is a friend she should do this for free?

Can I bring my horse to you for that price when I have to leave for a week? IMO, that is a very good rate. I don't live near a metro area, but a trainer I used a couple of years ago charges $650/month if the horse is already "broke" and less if the horse isn't. Same deal~I supplied the grain, and he supplied the hay.

I think your "friend" needs to do a little research. Most barns here in the Northeast charge at least $300 per month just for board. Depending on where you're located, hay can be at a premium due to supply. With friends like that, you don't need enemies!!!

Well he went with an older lady at a place where he used to board....  Good thing for him is she was really cheap, bad thing is she is the queen of slow walks around the pasture.....  So how in the world is that going to leg up a performance horse for a big shoot in 3 weeks????  LOL

We live in North Texas where we have been in BAD shape for hay over the last 2 or 3 years now  We have been driving to Kansas the last 2 years just to buy hay since the little hay around here was like buying gold!

My better half loves working with horses and working with horse with people problems, but just because she is not working a real job does not mean these so-called friends should take advantage of her....

I told her next time this "friend" ask, I will talk to him and her fee is going to be a $100.00 a week plus hay!

Rockin;I'm with you.I only wish I could FIND someone to help put both my horse, and MYSEF back into the kind of shape we should be.$100 a week is still a bargain I think. Especially since your wife will be doing ALL the work.

I agree, $75.00 a week is a steal. Around here most trainers are at least $450.00 a month  ( and that is a basic trainer )and provide no hay or feed. You were being too good to your "friend"

That guy has know idea how cheep that is here in NY $1,500.00 a month is cheep. Some people think that you ride the horse and enjoy it ,it is not work caring for animal is a lot of work in the heat or cold weather. Do not sell your wife cheep people will think she is not that good if you do
