I'm sure this topic has been beat to death, and asked a million times, but.... I just didnt get much out of searching.  I had a blowout a couple nights ago on our trailer.  It really stinks because the tires that are on it look practically brand new tread wise.  The guy we bought the trailer from put them on brand new, then used the trailer twice.  It sat for almost 2 years without being used, and started weather checking/dry rotting, etc.  I'm getting ready to go on a 3 hr long trip, and don't want to risk one of the others blowing, so going to throw on 4 new ones.  Our spare is fine since it mounts up under the gooseneck, and out of the elements.

So..... Just trying to get some opinions on what are good tires to go with.  The size that is on ours is a 235-85-16 Kumho Venture Load Range E 10ply.  I don't know whether to try and go with these again, or if there is better stuff out there?

I will be trying to order offline and then taking them to get them mounted and balanced.  Prices at tire dealers seem to be outrageous!

Any help and input would be greatly appriciated!

I bought a used trailer for work in 2007 that has Firestone Transforce HT tires on it.  10ply

a quick calculation on the conservative side and i've put over 10,000 miles on the tires and still have plenty of life left in them, and then whatever the previous owner had on them.

Ottomcnab, no reason to be a smart-ass. You have no idea what the conditions will be. Having a safe and enjoyable trip is a priority for myself and many others, but it seems some people are just interested in ridicule and sarcasm.

If you had searched under "tires" for the last year, you would have had over 250 postings that have every tire detail you might need.

If that isn't enough info, purchasing a new trailer will also enable you to get new tires.

I like either one of these two, depends on the axle rating...

I appricite those of you who had worthwhile responses to me!  I do appriciate that.  To those who feel the need to be a smart-ass....I'll never understand why so many people have to be internet bad-asses.  All I was doing was trying to enlist in the help of others on whats been good for them!

I just had to replace tires while on the road. Had blow out 10000 miles from home. Tires they had are made in china. Look good after 1000 miles home. What kind of trouble are people having with made in china tires?

I second the Goodyear Wrangler tires. My 4 horse uses the same size, and we have had great luck with them. I put chinese tires on my 2 horse alum slant, about 3 yrs ago. Within 4 months, the sidewalls started weather checking, and would not keep air. When one blew, it wrecked the alum fender on my trailer, and I just made it to a dealer to change them, when 2 more went south. I think the heat, and the dryness where I live eats tires, but my Goodyears are still nice, and I do keep them covered by skirts when not using the trailers. Check the manufacture dates on the sidewalls, ( usually on the inside )for tires not more than 2 yrs old. The codes can be found on previous posts by other posters.

I suggest buying ST (special trailer) tires instead of LT (light truck) tires.  They are designed for trailers.  They have a different tred and wall because they expect them to sit and not be pulled everyday.  I believe that most living quarter trailers do not have enough ply tire for their weight.  No less than 10 ply and anywere from 12-16 ply for larger trailers.  JMO.

I just got a real education at church this morning talking to a friend who is in a law suit regarding Chinese made tire.  He gave me a lot of detail that Chinese tires use up to 18% recycled rubber with out using the expesive additive to make this safe.  American tires only use up to 2% recycled rubber.  At all costs,  do not buy Chinese tires,  they have no regulations and no oversight.  There is no way to guarantee what you are buying from China.

I spoke with Goodyear on the phone and they confirmed what a friend had already told me.  Goodyear G614-RST Load Range G are made in the United States.  I ordered 4 and Briggs Tire are coming out to install them on my trailer in my driveway.  Briggs Tire Phone: (724) 267-3996 in Pa

I am up to about 2100 miles on my made in china tires that I did not have a choice on (needed to get home). So far they are looking good. They make me nervous after all the posts about how bad they are. Keeping my fingers crossed...

I bought Power Kings

The guy at the tire place, (Big O Tires), tells me that the Power Kings are also made in China and that in fact the vast majority of trailer tires are made in China or some other country besides the US. Also priced the Goodyear G14 RTS at around $300 + per tire. Now I'm not even sure that they are made in the US ,but I am sure this 16 ply tire is way more tire than I need for my 21 ft trailer with no LQ. I have to buy a new set of tires to replace the 7 year old tires on my trailer and it is more confusing than ever.

Ask your dealer about E range, American made LT truck tires. Your trailer doesn't need the higher capacity of the more expensive GY's.

I did ask about and tried to price an american made tire in the LT category. I decided to go with Mastercraft Courser R/D. Don't think it is American made, either.
