Well, we lost the old man last night. Apache was 28 years old, tri color, Tennesse Walker/Arab mix. Gonna miss that old buggar. He would never let me get those back feet no matter how hard I worked with him. That's what was his downfall and got the better of him.

Remember, No hoof, No horse.

so sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy to lose one...even a "difficult" one.

It is never easy, like losing a family member.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It does suck to loose a pet, a family member. Just as with the celebration of life with our friends and loved ones, thinking about the good times we shared with our pets, will bring warm memories and help the hurt.

They can never be exactly replaced, each horse is an individual. But another animal can, over time, beome the center of attention. As his care is spent, the hurt will dissapate.

It's a shame our best friends don't last as long as we do. We have to endure their losses many times over a life time. It doesn't seem fair.

Our condolences and best wishes.

losing a loved pet is truly hard,,,Gard is correct in the life span of them compared to ours. You have to be willing to give-em up but in the time they are with you>>>>enjoy everyday. It's been 10 years since lost my ole dog Bo and I can still recall the good times he brought into my life. Sure hate to hear about anyone losing something that they cherish but the memories do remain with you.

He was a hard headed old cuss at times. He is the only horse I know of that would slide his girlfriend next to him some hay. He was pure smitten with her. Rode them together once when he was 22, He was like a spring chicken just a prancing his stuff.

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your "ole cuss". Over the past forty years I've endured having to part with some of my best trail buddies; it never gets easier. Cherish the good times and look forward to more. Wish I could take my own advice. Still mourning the loss of my soul partner, my beautiful purebred Arab gelding. We did literally thousands of miles together and had to put him to rest two years ago. Still hurts.

Got a pic to share of your guy? Would love to see him.

It does suck. Thinking of all the good times will bring a smile to your face. Time will heal.

For awhile I thought I wouldn't reply to this thread. We lost our old guy last fall. He was 33 and a true leader. We always thought he was 6 years younger, until the vet looked at him a couple of years ago and saw he was loosing teeth. His 27 year old and 20 year long buddy misses him still as they would stand butt to head and shoo each others flies. The younger new horse is agressive towards him and tries to boss him around. But he slips away every time the new would be leader turns his back. Proves you cannot lead by fear alone but sometimes you got to swat a few flies to be a real leader. Those two were tight and define what it means when we say "I've got your back." We buried him out near the run-in shed where they liked to stand catching the sun in winter. There are many stories to be told about him. We all cried the day he died.
