Thanks, PaintedHorse, for that information.  It certainly is easy to see how misinformation and rumors can spread, and nothing seems to travel as fast as bad news!

The horse that died that was from Canada had numerous tests done and was neg for EHV1 it apparently had a cervical compression fracture of the spine and was put down because of that.Mira.

The Billings Horse Sale, one of the largest in the nation, cancelled the Memorial Day sale. They get horses from all over the West and Canada. They are planning on an expanded, end of June sale. They did not want to chance spreading the disease. Very responsible action, imo.

The disease seems to have run it's course. of the 75 confirmed cases, 58 were at the Ogden show. So we are not seeing a lot of secondary exposed cases.  The number of new cases has slowed. The incubation period is fast approaching it limit. So we can expect even fewer new cases. Of those 75 confirmed cases, there were 11 horses that died or were euthanized.

While I think it was smart to avoid large gatherings of horses during May. To avoid being around horses that might have been exposed at the Ogden show or had secondary exposure.  I didn't lock my horses up. I continued to trailer to places I wanted to trail ride. I avoided using any water tanks, hitchin rails, corrals that could have been used by horses I was not familar with.  Memorial Day weekend, I spent around Bryce Canyon, we primative camped, highlined the horses and hauled our own water. I rode trails where I never say another horse other than those I brought with us. So unlike those of you who participate in shows, ropings, rodeos etc,  I've been lucky to be able to continue my almost normal horse activities.

The State Vet here in Utah has not restricted travel of horses. But has urged caution about what you expose your horses to, my personal vet also has told me to go and have fun. Saying that he sees the risk in what I do as being pretty minimal.

With the outbreak winding down, I hope each of you can get back to what you enjoy.

Not a lot of chance of exposure in places like this.
