My Foxtrotter mare, KoKo, has had surgery to remove bone fragment and repair damages caused by a direct kick/blow to the stifle three months ago. After confering with specialists all over the country, we returned to K-State Veterinary teaching hospital. We have had many past experiences with a variety of treatments ( EPM=success/ Arthrodesis= success/ others). KoKo came through well and is up on her feet and eating well. The recovery process will take some time, but our hope is to have her back to athletic soundness again. We have been impressed with the level of care she is receiving ( if only WE could get that care in a hospital for humans)... We were able to observe the complete operation, start to finish, through an observatory hall. If anyone would like pics, etc... PM me. Thanks for the support in my early blog about this injury. I hope no one else ever has to go through this.

Your mare is fortunate to have dedicated owners to really try to take care of her, a lot of effort thus far..... glad to hear she is up and on her feet and well as expected .... recovery itself can be a traumatic event in the post op room........good news!

So glad to hear Koko is recovery well.

I am very fortunate to have K-State so close to me. I have used them several times for my horses and my little rat terrier that passed away last October. Top notch facility with excellant vets and the fees weren't anymore than my local vet.

I thought the same thing about how human health care wasn't up to the level of knowledge and caring that is displayed at this facility.
