I use my vet, He is very up to date on his dental side of his business.

He used to have the pneumatic air tools. And they are still readily accessable near the horse chute. And for a hard to reach tooth, He will grab them and polish a tooth or two.  But he mostly uses the new cordless drills that have been converted to dental use.  No air hose cords laying under foot. Less weight for him to hold up in the air. He just says it's much easier on him and the new tools do a superior job. He has several of the converted drils with different sized disc on the end and I assume different grits for faster or more polished work.

I have my horses teeth done every other spring. But the vet does look in their mouth each visit and gives me an idea if they are developing any points.

I used our vet up until last year. He sedated all, regardless, and used power tools. Not to mention has sky high rates. I've stopped using him for a lot of reasons.

I began using a local equine dental tech that uses a rasp and no sedation. He does an excellent job (much better than the vet) -- cheaper, too. I was surprised that the horses didnt go nuts with some guy filing on their teeth, but they took right to it/him.

The schedule of my horses vary by the horse, but generally it is every 1-1.5 years except for my oldest which is about twice a year, until the dental tech thinks differently. He's 33 with "summer teeth" ("summ-er there, summ-er not")
