Anyone ever used a propane crock pot/cooker while camping? We recently bought one but haven't got a chance to use it yet. I am thinking it would be nice to put something good in it and cook while we are out riding. What do you think?

I was considering one for the same reason. I am told they cook hotter than a regular crock pot. I am still curious though. When you try it, let us know....

By all means, try at home first. Unless they drastically changed something, there is nothing "slow cooking" about it. The one we tried basically just heated up the food and quickly. We were lucky we were in camp and could smell it burning. I do see on the website they now call the one we got "heat & serve" and have another "slow cooker" out there. Not sure
I do see there is now one that plugs into the cig lighter. Might be worth a shot...

When we first started camping with the horses we were primitive camped pretty much in a make-do trailer and thought those propane appliances would be grand. Granted they were expenisve. We are coffee geeks and bought the propane drip coffemaker. That was a joke. Hope you get better luck out of the crockpot. I cant imagine it cooking anything slow, however the coffee maker took forever to even get started. If you want to cook slow, you can build a fire and wrap food in foil and bury it in the coals/ashes or put all the coals on one side of a covered charcoal grill, put foil wrapped food on the other side, and close the lid. We like to bake potatoes in the coals of the campfire while we ride.

You can also you a dutch oven and bury it in the ground covered with some coals on top and bottom and they will work like a crock pot. Just easy on the coals.

I have heard of people using their regular crock pots and hooking them up to an inverter. They say it doesn't run the batteries down too bad. Personally, if any appliance is running in my camp while away at camp it will definately be outside.
