As I reported here 6 months ago, Allison told me they were coming out with a 6-speed auto in 2006. GM just announced today, the 6-speed Allison will be in the 2006 HD 2500 and 3500. And in the 4th quarter, the diesel race heats up with the new Duramax LBZ with 360 horse power and 650 torque. Ford announced today lower prices for 2006, the details of these stories are on my home page at www.MrTruck.com

damn......i had just about narrowed down my decison............

now if gm would just put a 10 speed eaton roadranger behind the new duramax id be first in line.

I got 13.4 MPG today - on a MERE 300 bhp and ONLY about 500 ft lbs of torque.
With the 4 horse head to head trailer, a nice ride. Coulda/mighta been better if I hadn't gone over most of Vermont's ski range.

I s'pose with 360 bhp and 650 ft lbs of torque they'll have to discontinue the instantaneous mpg display feature - or make it read to 3 decimal places.

Hmmm, Q3 of '06 - - price softening a couple of quarters after that...
I think I heard that GM is cutting (MSR) prices on their cars and trucks for '06 AND running the employee price program again.

...but I still have another 300,000 miles of life in the D'max that I already HAVE !

I'm sure Ford is not to be out done. They started shipping 2006 models in early June because their 2007 models will be out early next year. The 2007 Ford will have an all new twin turbo engine. Which I suspect Ford will rate at roughly the same horsepower as GM.

So we are basically in a horsepower war here. With one manufacture leap frogging the other.

For me I'll either get a 2007 GM or wait for the 2008 Fords. I don't want to be a first year test truck for either manufacture.

good advice, although ive been screwed both ways.........older "proven" models with a boatload of problems, and then ive had "new" models with no problems, basically a crap shoot from where i sit, pretty much the same for brand loyalty. ive had good ones and bad ones. just got to run with it.

Right now (and perhaps for a few more years) I don't think the way to the top is via a horse power race. Unfortunately it is almost certainly the way that detroit management will go when they don't know what to do (not that they ever know the right thing to do).
OK on the gears, though a fully automatic 3x3x2... maybe not.

I'd like to see a decent SIX cylinder diesel in a 1 ton truck.
I'd also like to see a more rational approach to what truck buyers need for HAULING, not just looking goofy when cruising Main St, Small Town at twilight. Forget the phat tires and raised look, think TOWING !!!

Howse about a 4 cyclinder diesel - about like the 5 litre ISUZU ?
I'd also like to see diesel fuel get below $2 a gallon... dream on.
OK, I'd like to get more for every $2.xx9 I spend.

Well that's good news if you like autos. The power and torque stay the same (300/520 rating) if you want a stick.  But that is one tempting auto.

I agree with Todd. I'm gonna keep my 2000 for the same reasons. If it ain't broke...don't fix it. I sure don't miss my old $500-$600 a month payments!!

Mr. Truck,

   Have you heard anything about the hp & torque ratings for the 6.4L Powerstroke that is coming out in 07?

Plus I am assuming that the 360/650 is flywheel not rear wheel. Correct?

Generally it's flywheel, though I have seen some diesels dyno at the rear wheel, the published numbers. I haven't had verifiable rumors on the new Ford diesel yet. I need to check with International as they should get the engine first in their medium duty trucks. The 6.0L PS was out 11 months in the International trucks as the VT365 before it came out in the Super Duty Ford's.

From what I heard from an international truck engineer was that the 6.4L was a ford superduty specific motor. But that was from the truck engineering plant in Fort Wayne, IN and not the actual engine plant in chicago so I could still be off.
