I have been towing a bumper pull 2 horse slant trailer for years now. I have always put a single horse in the front stall. However, I am very conscious of tongue weight since my Tundra has a ridiculously low maximum payload allowance. The axles of the trailer I am presently towing are to the rear of the trailer, as are most 2 horse slant load trailers.

My question is this: When loading only one horse does it not make sense to put the horse in the rear stall so that 100% of his weight is on the axles? When loading only one horse in the front stall, 60% of his weight is in front of the axles and therefore would increase the tongue weight.

I always put the horse in the front stall, you always want to have more tongue weight.  the issue for me is if put the horse in the back stall he can back all the way to the back of the stall and in some conditions give you negative tongue weight which will be very dangerious. I would say unless you have a huge tackroom you will should be fine with your tongue weight.

Just my opinion, I would always load toward the front no matter what the tow vehicle is!
UNLESS we are using the living quarters trailer then I load wherever I want!
