We have a 2014 Charger 8311 3 horse w/ slide and love it, it is built well and looks good and love the room the slide provides. Haul 2 horses and weeks worth of feed and supp;ies with no problems everything works well. For any problems we did have AJ in customer service was great to work with and resolved quickly. Would definatley buy another. We have 4 friends with them who love theirs as well. Only con is we don't get to use it more. But as asked above depending on how big of living quarters you are getting you might want to consider Big Horn model as the frame work is a little heavier material on them. Good luck and enjoy your trrailer

There's a difference in the newer ones and the older ones.

The reason I asked about model (above)..... we have a Charger 37. It's a bit narrow to say the least. We like the Lakota, although it hasn't seen many miles yet. They did a great job on the liviing quarters part of it. I find some very minor issues with finish such as unsanded metal edges in the horse area but nothing drastic. If you're going with the 8' wide trailer, you'll probably love it. If you have larger horses (say 15'3 and up), you might find the 7' (actually 6'9") a little cramped in the horse area. I really like the clearance to the water drains on ours compared to some manufacturers.

We have a 2007 4 horse 10 foot short wall Lakota trailer. We bought it at Quarter Horse Congress in 2007 and did nothing for three days but shop for a trailer. My wife is an aircraft mechanic and aluminum horse trailers are built quite similarly to aircraft. She inspected every rivet and every weld on our trailer and perspective trailers. We rejected several higher end brand trailers because they had pulled rivets and bad welds. Our Lakota passed her inspection and was one of the few trailers that did.
Our interior was installed by a third-party vendor hired by Lakota who has since gone out of business and did a less than stellar job. As soon as I brought issues to the attention of Lakota they came to The selling dealer and got my trailer and fixed it and only asked that I go up to their factory and pick it up and inspect it. All at no cost to me.
Lakota earned my future business.

We bought a 2009,  kept it and bought a new 2017 Lakota.  So that says a lot.  They made a lot of improvements from 2007 to 2017.

We ordered a 2H Charger 2 years ago with an 11' SW. We keep a running log on the mileage. Presently, we have put almost 19,000 miles on it. We opted for the narrow LQ with a slide. No regrets. We spent 3 months in AZ the last 2 winters, so I can honestly say we've lived in our Lakota a lot. I have given this thread a lot of thought since I first viewed it and would like to list any cons. I can't seem to come up with anything I'd change. Whenever any issue popped up, AJ is beyond super to respond. We have not had one "major" issue with our LQ except for ones caused by a third party. In every case, AJ (and Katrina in Parts dept.) are very fast to send out what's needed. AJ usually says, "Send me the bill," when we have things fixed near home.
Lakota stands behind their product. Customer service is A+, and to me that is very important with any big purchase.

It all depends on how you are using a trailer and what you want in the end with your purchase. Someone who hauls a few times to go trail riding each year will have different results than someone who wants to haul to a barrel race every weekend. Do you plan to keep it for a long time or do you trade trailers every few years? There are lots of factors that go in picking a trailer that fits your lifestyle.

One more thought.....if Hubby rode and always traveled with me and pulled the trailer, I'd have probably gone with an 8' wide. However, for almost the 50 years of hauling alone, I want to see as much of my tail end as possible going down the road. Back in '03, we bought our first GN, an Exiss with only a 4' SW. Sold it to buy a bigger LQ. I had actually priced the 8' wide Lakota, but a good friend who pulls a lot and also drives a dually, warned me about the more limited visibility pulling a wider trailer. As with anything, one has to weigh in the factors that work for you. Our purchase works great for us. (Just back from another camping trip, just me and the horse. )

I am thinking about buying a Lakota LQ 3 horse trailer. My question is what is the pros and cons of buying a slant load compared to a stock in the horse area?

Stock type horse areas are becoming more and more popular,  depends on what you like.
Sure there are differences, but I dont think there are many pros or cons.

Jackie, Not sure how the stock trailer horse part is set up as for ventilation, removable "windows" and such so therefore, I don't feel qualified to respond. All I can offer is how we use our slant's horse area when camping for longer overnight stays. We clean out the horse area and use it for an extended living area. While snowbirding, we put an additional TV with Directv receiver so Hubby and I could each have a TV. I suppose one could do the same if you choose to go with a stock trailer if you were to have plexiglass "windows". I just looked at Lakota's website and see GN stock trailers, but none featuring a LQ. Footnote: If I were to order a new SL, I'd pay the extra for rear drop down windows. Not planning on selling mine, but just sayin'..... :-)

There are 14 LQ stock type trailers listed on HTW.....

I would buy better tires we have a 2015 4 horse 8 foot wide with a 9 foot short wall. on our way to Arizona this fall the right rear tire blew it was a tow max tire they should call them blowmax.the tires had 80 lbs in them when it blew .Lakota put these tire on trailers when we order.. the tires i beleve are rated at speed of 60 miles an hour. The tire took out 2 drop down windows and the fender.SO BEWARE PLEASE DONT USE TOWMAX TIRES

Are you referring to a Lakota or any trailer in general?
My experience with those Towmax tires was to keep them lower than the max PSI (80) as they would always blow.
When kept at 70 (or even 65) - cold, before moving out - I never had a blow out.

Just got our "new" 2016 Lakota charger 3H with 13ft short wall, 8 wide w/mangers and slide out delivered Wednesday, and Thursday we took off for a 2 1/2 hour trip north for a 3 day barrel race fully loaded down. Trailer pulled beautifully even when we had a front tire blow out on our dually it stayed steady. I love the insulation and drop windows on both sides and I have fans in mine too (Florida is brutal to haul horses around in the summer months.) We slept 4 adults comfortably (one on air mattress, one on couch, and hubby and I in bed) and so far for our first trip I'm in love with it! I upgraded from a 96 sooner with a 2ft shortwall dressing room so it's a huge upgrade but well worth the 15 year wait!

The only thing I will also confirm is that the previous owner had a tire blowout and the fender was replaced at the dealership before we bought it. They put a different brand of tire to replace the towmax on that side. Unfortunately we also ended up having a blowout on our way home yesterday on one of the 2 remaining towmax tires, so hubby is ordering 2 new load range G tires today and we're keeping the "blowmax" as spares.
