I am looking to purchase a new western cinch and would like to know what size I should get. My horse is 14.3 hh and weighs around 915 lbs. She is a little over weight (25lbs or so). What size cinch should I get?

You could try measuring from the off-billet to where your latigo will end comfortably...That's how long the cinch should be, but it's a pretty general idea. Do you have a current cinch you can measure, or even borrow somebody else's to measure? Luckily, with western cinches you have some leeway in sizing since you can always move the cinch up or down a hole (or 2) on the off-billet side, or take another loop on the latigo, etc. I hope you get a more precise response than mine...I'd like to know how to figure it out w/o guessing too! OMG, Mine must be just pure FAT then! The better halfs barrel, pole, roping, working cow and now a mounted shooting horse is a 10 year old quarter horse mare that is 14.2 or 3hh and is almost 1100 lbs..... My roping horses are both 15hh and almost 1400 lbs, bette half has a 17hh quarter horse and he is 1450lbs!
Back to your question, when we started the mare above she was around 900 or 950lbs and we was using a 26" but now has grown into a 28 or 30 depending on the brand. All will depend on how you like for the cinch to set on your horse. We like for ours to have about 6" on each side between the bottom of the D ring on the saddle to the top of the cinch D ring. But everone is different, this is what works for us.

Don't know if anyone has seen these but I know I would like to have one. Go to www.wcircle.com and check out the western just-a-cinch. It is a cinch that adjust from 26" to 36" and you can get an english one too. I would really like to have one but wish it was a neoprene cinch. Has anyone used one of these cinches??

Luv arabs - Now that's a great idea!! I wonder why I've never seen that before? I'd like to be sure the buckle in the middle of the cinch wouldn't press into the horse and make them sore though. Also, if you had the cinch on the larger size holes it looks like you'd be past the soft protective cover area. Might still be OK though. For $79 I'd rather you buy it and let me know if it works before I buy it though! hehehe
