Curious on opinions people have about gooseneck trailer floor length. Specifically, any difference in going from 30 feet to 35, and how it affects your ability to maneuver? Thanks

Our 2006 Hart 3H x 13 ft LQ x 8 ft wide trailer had a floor length of 27.5 ft and an overall length of 35 ft 10 inches.

We found that most of the provincial equestrian campgrounds that we camped at in Alberta were pretty tight for backing that trailer into. We had to be pretty selective on picking a camp site with enough room to navigate into. I can only imagine that a trailer longer than that would be even more difficult to park in some of those sites.

We pulled our trailer with a 2011 Ford F350 DRW truck with a GVWR of 13,300 lbs. The Hart was a fairly heavy trailer at 16,700 lbs loaded with 2 horses and all our camping gear, and a hitch weight of 4400 lbs which resulted in our truck being loaded to 100% of it's GVWR rating. I can only imagine that a 35 ft trailer would likely be even heavier and require a tow vehicle with a corresponding higher GVWR rating. A longer trailer might even put you into a triple axle trailer, which may give a different weight distribution (i.e. hitch weight) than our double axle Hart. I would suggest that a test pull and a trip over a weight scale would help you to confirm your tow vehicle requirements.

I hope this helps you determine the right size trailer (and truck) to meet your requirements.

Well, just an opinion- a 30' trailers is long. A 35' is realllly long. Especially in fuel stops and campgrounds. We are seeing more folks go to a F-450 not necessarily for the weight capacity, but the much shorter turning radius makes wrestling longer trailers around easier.

one thing to keep in mind that wheel placement is just as important as total length.  it also greatly impacts tongue weight.  my 48 foot trailer tracks about the same as my 36 foot trailer because the axles are basically the same distance from the kingpin.  as you move the axles forward you do get more back swing which is something you need to learn to deal with but at the fairgrounds I go to it has not been an issue yet.
