We recently bought a 28 ft class C motor home with a 450 V10 Ford engine. Can I safely tow a two horse trailer with one horse and equipment/tack? My empty trailer weight is 2800 lb.

probably, not gonig to win any races and i would use load leveling bars. how much you load the motorhome will probably have more to do with it than anything, also where you live will have a huge impact on how pleasurable/safe the combination is.  Ie you probably be fine in Iowa, Coloardo not so much

I believe there should be towing specs and requirements somewhere in the manual or something, even for a motorhome. If not, maybe contact the manufacturer of the coach?

NOPE! Not unless you get some work done on the hitch on the motorhome! We was going to go with a motorhome until I spent weeks doing research on tow capacity. Motorhome had plenty of power BUT no near enough hitch rating. Most we looked at only had a 500lb max tongue capacity and 2000 to 2500 max tow capacity on the actual hitch!

Well, from my experience I think most truthfull RV dealers will tell you that hitch was put there for 2 reasons. First- tow the subcomact car the delivery driver needed to get back to the factory. Second- hold a bike rack. Putting 5,000# of shifting cargo horse trailer back there has the opportunity to south in very many ways.

Several years back a prominent Texas horse trainer had horses killed in a trailer wreck with a similar set up. The undercarriage of the motorhome was not strong enough to handle the trailer weight.

I bought the same motor home in 1998 (a 1992 Winnebago Minnie Winnie), and regularly pulled a 1997 Sundowner 2-horse tag-along horse trailer with dressing room, 3651#s trailer only, with two Tennessee Walking Horses, tack buckets, etc and feed, including hay, for two horses for 10-day camping trips from Charlotte, NC to west of Nashville, Tennessee. Made as many as five such trips per year until about five years ago when my 'heart' horse aged out on me. Still have the rig, though. The motor home never slowed down up I-26 to Ashville to I-40, and then when I was coming back, up through the gorge to Ashville, etc. I did have a load-leveler hitch put on, and
of course a good electronic braking system. Of course it had to pull itself and all of our clothes, food, filled water tanks and 36 gallons of gas, etc. Never any problems except when we first got it, used, the transmission went
out on a trip not pulling anything. Had to have it rebuilt, and local company builds their own torque converters,
and said they put a very strong one on. Never had any further problems.

the last trip I made was going up I-77 to I-81, very steep long pull, and was getting off an exit about 25 miles on I-77 past I-81, and engine cutoff.

Sat there about 30 minutes, and it started right up. I drove the last 30 miles to camp, no problems. Not knowing
what happened, a week later I drove home motorhome only. Went back with Surburban for horse and trailer.
Think it overheated?
