| I'm looking for my first trailer and will be pulling with a 1/2 ton equipped to tow max 10,200 pounds. I have upgraded gears, rear shocks, tires, weight distribution along with a trailer brake controller. I'm trying to stay at 7500 lbs or less but I want the tack area/dressing room to have an AC equipped so my dog can stay in the trailer during my events.
Would it be safer to get a gooseneck with a weekender package or just find a bumper pull and add my own AC? (I would pay to have one installed). I've see Sundowner Charters, Shadow Competitors and Lakota trailers with 6' or less short walls that seem to fit my needs but they seem to get bad reviews here.

Location: Zionsville, Indiana | The supports for an AC must be built into the roof framing when the trailer is built. You can have supports added (a 14" x 14" square framework supported by the wall structure) but depending on the trailer it could be quite costly. | |

Location: Tenn/Ala. | IMHO, most 1/2T trucks are better served with a nice BP and a weight distribution hitch, than any kind of gooseneck. Most goosenecks carry too much tongue weight for the 1/2T truck. That strictly comes from experience, as tongue weight is not a measured stat, and thus you cannot get that number during your shopping. The old rule of thumb is 25%, but that is merely the target. Have escape door(s) on a small trailer which pushes axle location rearwards, and that tongue weight number climbs quickly. As Kay said, adding the A/C is no problem.
And the trend to really short beds, don't work well for most goosenecks. | |
