Will this engine be sufficient for hauling a 2 or 3 horse bumper bull trailer with no extras?
It's a 2002

The engine is only one link in the chain required to safely and reliably tow a horse trailer. Consider wheel base, GCVWR, axles, tires, hitch, brake controller, etc.

The other issue is how much the trailer weighs and your experience in driving a rig. A three horse trailer is sensitive to load balance.

All of what hosspuller said is correct.  That being said, the truck that the Duramax 6.6 comes in is at least a 3/4 ton truck and is suitable for the trailer you describe and the engine is definitely sufficient.

If your 3 horse bumper pull trailer comes in tongue heavy...there may be some things you'll have to do to your truck's physical setup...but the Duramax/Allison will NOT be one of the issues...:)
