Billings Livestock Auction, Billings, Montana has one of the largest monthly horse auctions in the U.S. Put "Billings Livestock Horse Auction" in a search engine, and the website will be available. They pride themselves in good, dependable working ranch horses, as well as timed event horses. Sales are held monthly, catalog will be delivered by mail per your request. Sale horse pictures, bio, and where is get more info are on website, phone bids accepted, transportation to anywhere in U.S. available. I have purchased 2 horses that came through this sale, one sight unseen. Very pleased! Don't expect cheap horses.......but quality leaves no regrets!

I noticed you were in Nashville.  There is a sale in Bowling Green a few times each year.  If you google West Kentucky Horse Sales, it should show you a schedule.  They will also post an online catalog as sale time nears.  It typically has some nicer horses due to the higher consignment fee that you have to pay.  There are other sales in the middle TN area, however, they will be your typical "sale barn" offering.

Pretty much any auction will have AQHA horses for sale at them. If you are looking for something a bit more trained or with a more or less guaranteed background, you might try searching for performance horse auctions and such. Good luck on your search or sale of a Quarter Horse.

Western Horseman magazine has a lot of ranch horse auctions going on now. Great resource for really broke horses.

I know where 400 AQHA horses will be sold. Kind of worrying that they are making an internet auction of it, but it is what is is.

If you are thinking about Rita's 400 horses, yes they are to be sold by Profesional Auction sometime in the later part of September.

That's what the article says. I don't have any details, but perhaps look at the auction site sinful referred to. Otherwise if I hear anything I'll try to let you know.

I live about 30-45 minutes away from Rita Crundwell's farm here in IL and here's the info I have...The online sale is Sept.10-11, I think but am not 100% positive on those dates and from what I heard that is for the sale on horses that are located out of state....The sale itself, is Sept.23-24 and will be held at the Dixon, IL ranch on Red Brick Road...The performance horses will sell on the 23rd and the halter horses will sell on the 24th...The sale is being held on those dates as there is some futuries and other big shows going on that weekend here in the Midwest and they hope to draw those people in...Have also heard that there has been some international interest in some of the horses too...I know I plan to attend one or both days...And I know I have a friend coming up from Texas to attend the sale and a friend from WI is coming down for the sale...

Some of these horses are champions and are likely to not go cheap, but I'll bet there are a few bargains to be had. That is for those looking. But here's the auction company link. The catalog isn't up yet. The horses I really feel for are the surrogate mares that seem to have no name or information. Anyway, for those that have money to spend. http://www.professionalauction.com/12RC.htm

They have several sales annually in a different location. Headquartered in Virginia. Through their purchase and sale.

The govt has put up so many rules and stipulations to the sale at Rita's.  For instance no Credit Cards.  Cash or bank draft, Letter of Credit.  $250 Bid number, they think that will weed out all the on-lookers. Duh. If you don't buy you get your deposit back.   I have heard talk that some won't attend because they can't use their Credit Cards to buy with.

Yes, it is true you have to put down a $250 deposit when you register to bid and you do get that back if you don't bid...But that $250 goes towards any horse you do buy...And no horse will be selling for less than $400...This is supposed to keep any of the horses from going to slaughter....The city of Dixon is already saying that motels rooms are becoming hard to come by that weekend in and around the city...I think you will still get some looky-lous...I know I will probably be one of them...I am not positive but I think you can watch this sale online both days (23 & 24)...

Seems the first online auction has already begun. Since the second auction is both live and online, I wonder if it too will be started early, or since it's live, start in real time? Don't really know. Thinking it will start online and finish in real time at the farm.

Some pretty hefty prices (for me anyway) on some already. All the recipient mares with embryos are bid on, some higher then others, but bid on. Doesn't mean they aren't at risk once the foal is born, but that's life of a horse in the money world I suppose. The only horses not bid on are the recipient mares that are not bred. Might have helped them a bit if they had they're registration info.

Click on the online catalog, then click on 'open for bidding.'

Tempted to go and tire kick for the other auction, but I'd probably end up buying something I can't really afford. Like this recipient mare in Texas that isn't currently bred. LOT 102: Recipient Mare - G014/PE603 (not a link, but if you scroll down the auction you will find her) If I had one less horse, I'd be tempted, she's cute. Too bad they didn't keep or put together the registration papers for some of recipient mares that aren't currently carrying embryos or any info an any training that they may have helped. Though I'm thinking disposition wise the recipient mares are likely top notch, even if some of their conformation a bit less so. No one is going to buy a screwball to carry hopeful future champion embryos, right? Would have helped to have pictures for all of them as well, though they do for many of them. Click on the click to open and most of the recipient pictures are of the pair mated for the embryo, but the last is often of the mare carrying the embryo.

On the other side, the highest bid on horse so far is up to $55,000 already, so no worries of me even considering that.
