Title pretty much says it all. Dealership wants me to buy extension ($49) or have them install plug into the bed of the truck (more than $49 for sure!). I have found the extensions on E-bay for $30, but do I really need one? I have a factory plug on the bumper of my truck. Thanks!~K

Depends on the length of the cord from the trailer. I haven't ever seen a new one that wasn't long enough to reach and plug into the bumper. I have one truck that has the plug in the bed and I always use the one in the bumper anyways. Reminds me to unplug it when I let my tail gate down, or reminds to put my tail gate down when I unplug it. It is amazing how many times you can still come close to jerking the plug off or the tail gate when you have already done it once.

You can got to the auto parts store or walmart and buy the "extension" that plugs into your factory wiring.  Then you just need to drill a hole in the bed where you want it and screw it into place.  I need it for my 98 horse trailer but not our 06 5th wheel.  Check your wire length of your trailer and see if you even need it.

Thanks guys!I got an 8' extension for $19.99 just in case. I will bring it with and return it if not needed. If it is needed I will end up putting a plug in the bed probably anyway. I would rather have a $20 plug with me and not need it than have to buy one for $49!Cheers!~Kevin
