Location: MS | Well, I am seriously thinking about selling my trailer, and maybe even the truck. The vet just left, and my only sound horse is not longer sound. She foundered for the second time. I can't afford another horse...already feeding 3 other unsound horses. So, it may be time to let someone else take my little Exiss 2 horse LQ that I worked so hard on. With gas prices they way they are, and being on a fixed income, I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. So, my question...what do you think a 2000 Exiss B&B, shower, sink, microwave, AC, water heater, 2 horse in excellent condition would be worth? Oh, and also, a Sundowner steel 2 horse BP. I think it is about a '97...would have to go look. In good condition with just a little rust.

Location: Northern Utah | Do a search in the trailers for sale section and see what similar types/size trailers are selling for. Check with a dealer nearby and see what he would give you if he bought it or sold it on consignment. |

Location: Vermont | How would you move any of these unsound horses to the vet if you get rid of your trailer? How did you end up with all of these unsound horses? Have you considered any alternatives?? |

I will just buy a little two horse trailer. Maybe even the other one in my post.
Unfortunately, I have had all these unsound horses for years. One foundered as a 2 year old and is 19 now, one is 25 and has Cushings and arthritis. One is a 12 year old mare that was started too young, before I got her, and now is paying for it with messed up hocks. And now the one that just foundered again that I have now found out has a low thyroid. Just lucky I guess!

Location: MS | I was talking to my friend that owns the 2 horse Sundowner. If I sell my trailer, I will probably try and buy hers.
None of these horses are bad enough to put down, and are certainly NOT for sale or going to be sent to auction. None will ever be totally sound, but they are certainly living a quality life. When they cease to be happy horses, then I will consider putting them down. In the meantime, I have found that the last foundered horse is low thyroid, and the vet thinks with meds that she can be sound enough to ride again. |

| I had a wonderful foxtrotter gelding that went blind.I sold his mother to buy him then,this happened.We wound up donating him to a equine rescue operation because I was afraid he would wind up going to slaughter otherwise.We have a 19 yr old mare that my husband has had most of her life.She is still a ball of fire,but if/when she becomes unsound I can assure you SHE won't be put down just because she can't be ridden unless she is in pain. |
