Subject: Trailer Wiring Question

 I just bought a new trailer Fith Wheel trailer and hauled it the other day everything works fine but when i apply the brakes my lights go out.  I have a 2008 f-350 and it tells me my trailer  plug has disconnect but everything seems fine.  Is it that my trailer is not grounding properly

Are you blowing fuses? If so, you are looking for a short to ground in your trailer wiring most likely. Take your voltmeter, put it on ohms and check for continuity from your leads to the trailer chassis. Only one should read zero ohms, the wihte one usually. If any of the others do read zero ohms then you have a short that is blowing you fuses.

I am not blowing any fuses. It's almost like when i apply the brakes my truck is loosing contact with the trailer. As soon as you stop everything comes back or if your moving everything is fine. It just seems to be when slowing down.

Location: West TN		Do you have anything in the bed that is coming in contact with the trailer cord?  I had a a piece of pipe that wreaked havoc with me one time until I figured out that it was causing my troubles on my connection.  Just a thought.
