This trailer is located not far from me.  It's 14 years old BUT it's a Sundowner and I think they hold their value.  Is this a good price?

1994 SUNDOWNER - 3 HORSE SLANT GN
WITH REAR TACK & DRESSING ROOM.
ALL ALUMINUM - Including the floors and framing!
Just Arrived!  -  Details Coming Soon.
Has Plexi Glass Inserts - not shown in pics!
ON THE LOT AND READY TO GO!

$8,980

(Never mind this second question, I found out the Weekender is too heavy.Second question... what does a trailer need to have in it in order to qualify for financing as a "second home"?  Toilet and shower?  I found a weekender near me but it's price is high enough that I'd have to be able to claim the interest on my taxes to make it worthwhile.

Thanks!

Thats a LOADED question ~ too many variables! But for what it's worth, I sold my first Sundowner Sunlite, '91 Modle in excellent shape for more money ~ Good luck! Along with the normal stuff, double check the undercarriage for dings, floors under matts for pitting, etc. Good luck! It looks very interesting from here!

To qualify for a tax break as a second home the trailer must have a LQ and be RVIA approved. As far as the price it sounds about right.

Looks like a nice trailer.

But I'll tell you what my CPA had to say to me about the "second home" interest and the IRS.

The IRS wasn't looking too hard at this kind of thing in years past. But now, with a war to fund and a huge budget, they are wanting to look around a little more at things such as this.My CPA told me that if you are audited, you need to be able to sit across the table and look an IRS agent right in the eye and say<"Yes,this is my second home." Not just a recreational vehicle that you have fun with .

I saw this happen to people that I knew well.Everything they bought, they wrote it off "on the farm." She had a farm that was incorporated and every vehicle, every horse, every expense, and everything else was written off "on the farm." I'm sure your situation is very different, but,it came home to them when they were randomly audited and had to try to prove to an agent how their LQ was their second home, and how they were tying it in with a row crop farm.It wasn't easy and they barely escaped paying huge fines. They did owe back taxes/interest,however,because the IRS ruled against them.

Having said all of that,I'm no CPA but I would certainly consult mine.Other than that, the trailer looks like a very nice one,I would want to see the inside of it first.Might offer 8K first.

Sorry if I confused anyone, the trailer in the picture just has a dressing room only.  It's NOT the weekender I was asking about, that was a second trailer.  Turns out it's a moot question though, as the weekender is too heavy.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong on this one, RVIA has absolutely nothing to do with weather a trailer is tax deductable. The way I understand the law is it must have a plumbed bathroom to be considered a home, and that is what makes the interest on the loan deductable. RVIA is an industrial association that has nothing to do with determining weather a trailer is, or isn't a second home.

The other component on "deductability" is how much time you spend in it.  I beleive you need to spend 2 weeks per year to call it a "vacation" home.  I added up the time I have spent in my new LQ over it's first 14 months and came up with 70 days.  I think I am fine on that point.
