I was wondering if any one has any reviews or comments on the 2003 Exiss Model XT400LTD Trailer. The trailer is one of the Event, Limited Edition models. We were told this is the top of the line Exiss trailer. We are concerned about the Exiss trailers leaking in the early 2000s, any information is appreciated.Thank you

We have a three horse Exiss and enjoy it greatly. It is well built, tows smoothly, and we have encountered no problems.

We especially like the way the rear doors wrap around and latch to the trailer sides. I have seen too many new trailers, with the door holdbacks ripped off when placed on the rear frames. At Congress a few years ago, many display models of countless brands suffered this occurrence. The Exiss rear doors feature four hinges instead of the two or three found in other brands.

The stall dividers are large and massively built with easy to use slam latches. The piano hinges on the drop down windows eliminate the flexing I've seen from other trailer brands.

The leaking roof issue is greatly overblown. Any leaks of this brand, like any other brands, are few and infrequent. No one trailer company, Exiss or any other manufacturer, can build every unit perfectly. That is not to say that a leaking trailer is built incorrectly. The most common cause of a leak is the failure of or the improper installation of caulking.

Some time ago I posted a thread on "Why Trailer Roofs Leak". You can do a search and see what a common cause is, of why trailers do leak.

Proper maintenance is a major consideration in the longevity and enjoyment of your trailer. If you ignore it, sooner or later you will have problems. By being proactive, you can anticipate potential problems before they happen. If nothing is done until a failure occurs, only the owner can be blamed for the fault.

I consider my trailer a life time investment. It's quality, features and construction seem to reinforce this impression with every usage. It took us a while to find this trailer, and the effort was well spent. We have a great deal of enjoyment and pride of ownership with our Exiss.

BOL  Gard

Like Gard,we own an Exiss Event and we are pleased with ours too.

The Event is a higher-end Exiss trailer.

I am a fairly new Exiss owner, but mine is older, a 1997 4H, and we love it. No roof leaks, and any trailer that is a solid as ours is at 11 years of age is very well made! I am in love with the dividers, and overall looks of the trailer!

I had the option to buy a sooner that was 2 years newer with a few less scratches (horses can sure tear up the smooth painted aluminum with a halter!) but the construction of the Exiss and how well its held up made it easy to take it home!

I also have an Exiss, a 2000 2 horse LQ. Not a leak in sight. The only problem I have had is with the drop down windows, and the company replaced them and had them installed at no charge to me! Can't beat that!
I am with Gard about those slam latches...love them!

We too, have an Event, 3H with 10' SW LQ. It is 7 years old now. No leaks, basically repeat what Gard said.  Did have the slide out step to the LQ let go, the factory reimbursed us for it's repair and no other issues at all.  Have hauled it out west up and down some real off roads to elk camp, and it did perfectly.  We would buy it again.

We have a 2002 Exiss XL 308 LQ. We've never had a problem with leaks . The only thing I've ever had to do is wash and wax the thing. Great trailer pulls like a dream.

I did have a leak on my Exiss and it was due to old caulking. I went up there and removed the old caulking that was letting go and re caulked it. Been fine ever since( two years ago). I do go up there once a yer, in the spring, and check it over. Ther trailer sits outside year around so its bound to happen with any make of trailer.

We did have leak problems in our 2000 Exiss Event, but otherwise it's been a great trouble free trailer.

My biggest complaint is the drop down window latches and faceguards.  They break too easily and dont seem to close properly.  Otherwise it has been a good trailer.
