Thanks for reading, in advance. My daily driver is a 1996 Toyota 4Runner Limited, with 4 wheel drive and every option that was available that year. The previous owner used it to tow a boat, and it has a Reese hitch installed. I am interested in purchasing a 2H bumper pull. How do I find out the exact specifications of what Toyota says this SUV should be able to pull? Also, when I look at used trailers, how do I find out how much they weight empty? I would be planning to tow only one horse (perhaps very occasionally two) short distances on flat roads. I know that some people think this is crazy, and other people think this is probably fine. Who do I listen to?!?!?!?! Usually the truth is somewhere between the extremes. Would I tow with a 4Runner like your example? Sure. Would I tow the Rockies with it? Well..... A "standard" 2H BP is going to come in around 2500#. Get one with brakes, install a WDH and brake controller and youll be fine. You may not be satisfied with the performance, but thats doesnt mean its unsafe. Probably will want an external tranny cooler also. Click the link for at least one example of your suv's tow rating. http://www.trailerboats.com/towrating/index.cfm?action=search&yr=1996&make=Toyota&model=4Runner&min_tlimit=&max_tlimit= |
