Location: Edinburg, Va. | Starting to look for a good place to spend a week in the summer. Saw the previous posts about several of the campgrounds in the Smokies around Townsend. Would appreciate any additional information on favorite campgrounds, both pros and cons. Went on the horse trail directory and read the reviews. Would really like to be able to hit the trail heads from the campgrounds without riding too far along paved roads or too much additional time just to get to the trailhead. Thanks for the feedback anyone can provide. |

Location: somerville,al | I have been staying in Townsend and riding in that area for 15 years. Orchard Cove Stables (www.orchardcovestables.com) is the best camp at the present time. You can ride into the national park from there facility. If you want to ride for a week, you will probabley want to haul to other trail heads . PM me and I can send pictures and provide lots of other info. |

Location: Goodlettsville, TN | If you have pics of the trails at and around Orchard Cove we would like to see them? We are planning a trip around Labor Day. Can you get to Cades Cove by horseback from the campground? If so, how far? We ride TWH's and covering 15-18 miles is a good days ride for us. Thanks, Nancy |

Location: Edinburg, Va. | Hi: If you will PM me your e-mail address, I will forward the pics I got from oldguide. He would be your best source of info about the area. We have not been there yet so I'm not sure about distances from the camp to various locations. Also, the campground should be able to provide tons of information. It's nice to have as much info as possible before going somewhere but of course, you really don't get the big picture till you get there and start riding. Good Luck |

Location: Odenville, Alabama | Oldguide . . . Where is Orchard Cove in relation to Lazy Horse? Up the road toward the park on the right? I seem to remember some building going on at a place up the road from Gilberts. How many times I've ridden up School House Gap Road. I sure love it up there !! |

Location: somerville,al | It's to the left if you were looking at Gilbertson's from the road. The best way in is go by Tucaleechee Caverns. It's on the left, but you can't see it. They have a long driveway and then over a little hill. It's alot more private than Gilbertson's and plenty of room. They have all new facilities. Since Rock N Horse Stables closed, it's by far the best place in Townsend. |

Location: Odenville, Alabama | I didn't know Rock N Horse closed !! I'll have to check it out. Is there enough room for a big trailer? It's tight pulling a big trailer into Gilberts, that's why we usually stay in the Rancher. |

Location: somerville,al | Richard and Brenda sold Rock N Horse to a lady for a private residence. They sold at the end of Oct. 2007. There is plenty of room at Orchard Cove, they have the most room of anyone in the area. Go to www.orchardcovestables.com. If you call Mrs. Webb, tell her I sent you.
