Location: central sierra nevada foothills | Well, decided it's late enough in the year and wanted to check out the snow at the lower elevations on horseback. The night before I hmmed and hawed, deciding on which horse to take, Fancy or Josie? Well, figured if I got into some hairy predicaments Josie would be the one I'd want to be on to get out of them. So up the hill I towed to White Pines. From my website I took this ride almost a year to the week from last time. More snow this year!!!! Started out mellow and about 3/4 of a mile later the snow got deeper and deeper and deeper!!!! Now these are all logging roads mind you and are unplowed. All I can say is "HOLY Cow Caca!" Josie and I came to one spot on the road where she came to an complete stop and down to her knees she went, she calmly went to her belly next and out of the saddle I came, "YEE HAW!!!" Thank goodness the snow was only a foot down so it wasn't a far fall, all I could do was laugh, the two of us sitting in the snow, and the look on Josie's face like "I hate you mom! The things you put me through!" A 2 hour ride to the Lube Room Saloon turned into 3 1/2 hours one way, and made for a 7 hour daya ride! and that was made even longer and harder by riding in snow anywhere from 3 to 3 1/2 feet deep on the logging road, who's to say what it was in other places!

Location: Northern Utah | Snow is pretty deep here. Not getting out with the horses much. Did go chase a kitty through the snow yesterday.

Location: Northern Utah | I'm not sure what he weighed. Probably close to 200lbs. I don't think many folks want a 200lb tom cat as a house cat. Snow is too deep to ride the horses in the mountains. We found the carcass of the doe deer this tom had killed and followed the footprints to find the fat cat. In the summer you rearely see them ( an most wildlife is harder to spot in the summer) But in the winter with all the leaves gone, it easier to spot wildlife. I mean a big black moose or a big buffalo really sticks out against a hillside of white snow.
