Location: Texas | This might be a few weeks late, but it's a long winter. What camp and trail related Christmas gifts did you get (or give)? My wife gave me a 14" dutch oven. I think it will work a little better for pies than my 12" one. The crust won't be quite so close to the edges, which will aid in removing the pie and maybe not burning the crust so bad. It might get some use for roasts and stew when we have a larger group, too. My wife and I gave her dad a set of oversized insulated saddle bags. He can put his lunch and beverage of choice in there. |

Location: Missouri | We always buy stuff we can use for each other. I got my husband a neat deal to put his thermos in that hangs on the saddle horn so he can take his coffee. He also got a new pulling collar for his saddle. I got some waterproof cowboy boots which will really be nice when we ride and cross rivers. I always was getting my feet wet and then cold the rest of the day. I got a breast collar too and it's got the hair on hide. The dutch oven sounds great. I am trying to learn how to cook with mine. Food sure is better cooked out over a fire isn't it? Got any good recipes? |

Location: central sierra nevada foothills | I got a portable 10" DVD player for my trailer, a really nice compass, some saddle bag stuff like, small itty bitty leatherman, firestarter helper thingy, gloves, and some other small items.................... oops! Almost forgot, my digital camera with a 15x zoom lens. It's a Sony HD H7. It is awesome, been playing with it at the ranch, can manually tweak the lighting and more, got the best of both worlds now, can be digitally automatic or like a 35mm!

Location: Tennessee | We decided to get a Amerique smoker from Cookshack. Not we can put the meat, potatoes, beans, and the vegetables in when we leave for the ride. When we get back averything is done. This has been the best gift that we have ever done for each other |

I got hubby some hunting chaps, will come in handy when we bushwack.Cowpony, that sounds like a really nice camera. Let us know how you like it. Debbie |

Location: NM | I got a Satellite Messanger like this: http://www.tlrsystems.com/products/spot.html I think it will make Mr. Bells happier when I am on the trails for days at a time. I can send him an alls well message, an I need help from you message or even send a 911 message (hopefully that will never happen!). I thought it was an odd present but I guess it gives him peace of mind when I am out of cell range. |

Location: Texas | Sounds like everybody got some real nice gifts.
pooperscooper, you reminded me of one gift I forgot to mention. A friend got me a dutch oven cookbook. I mainly cook roasts, stews, and pies in mine. We did try enchiladas and we determined they were delicious. I have always thought lasagne would be good in a dutch oven.
My wife and I also gave a couple friends creme de menth (mint flavoring) and strawberry flavoring for the occasional time we want something other than vanilla ice cream. |

| I didn't RECEIVE any horse related stuff but I bought it for my own Christmas! I bought a blue headstallw/matching breast collar with fancy conchos w/rinestones for my black and white foxtrotter mare.I know it doesn't sound like "trail" gear tho. My husband DID receive a Weaver "Texas Star" breastcollar to match his headstall, tho. We got ourselves some hay carrying bags that are neat, just fold out flat and put hay flakes in them, they close with velcro, very practical as we put out square bale flakes of hay here. |

Location: Illinois | I got a new saddle and horse! I came across another horse late this fall, and of course she had to have a new saddle! It's a Circle Y Carlsbad Trail Saddle. It's sure purdy! I just wish it had better conchos on it, think I'll get me some of the texas stars like weaver leather uses. I also got a new camera (Kodak Z712). It's nice enough to do a good job, but affordable enough to take on the trail too! My birthday is at the end of this month, so I've already put an order in for new boots. I'll be turning 40, so I think I deserve more |

That's true, but I'd have rather put that $250 or so to a new saddle or trailer goodies. Not that I don't appreciate it, but I already had all my music on a mp3 player. Of course I could always ride and watch a movie on it. Or watch the movie if I take a lunch break. Who needs a flat screen tv!! I can carry my movies in my pocket!! This is the one. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Apple-80GB-iPod-classic-Silver-MB029LL-A/sem/rpsm/oid/192320/catOid/-17362/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Location: high desert, CA. | I got my wife a new "Sierra" model helmet, heated boot socks and new riding gloves for her Dressage lessons. I got a new straw hat to wear when not riding, ( we only ride in helmets), bright red cowboy shirt with embroidered american flags on each side of the front placket, ( fav color is RED), and a tractor clock for the tack area that growls out running tractor sounds when the hour rings, ??, lots of time together which was the best of all! My wife seasoned my new dutch oven for me this past weekend. Our other cast iron wear was pre-seasoned when we bought it. Wow, seasoning it in your oven at home really stinks up the house. Make sure your hood exhaust fan is on and your bedroom door is closed. I think I'd buy the pre-seasoned stuff, if given a choice. |
