A comparable Exiss 4' short wall weighs almost a thousand more at 5400#. 4500# is pretty light if it's including a LQ.

Check out Dixie Tuff, made by Bee for Dixie Horse and Mule. I have their 3H, 4ftSW LQ.  No sofa bed, you'd probably have to go to 6 ft SW for that.  But it has everything else with the expection of a cooktop and there is counter top space if I wanted to add it.  Their web site says 4500#, I haven't weighted mine yet.  Love the trailer and the customer service!

Kiefer 4 foot short wall with living quarters. They weigh their trailers after the LQ are installed. Call Ricky Vaughn at diamond V Trailer sales, he can tell you the exact weight. Mine is 3 horse with 8 foot short wall and it weights 5600.

From my experience, DHMCO has the best prices and the best warranty. What you are looking for may be hard to find under 30K, but the service from them is well worth it. And so is their products. They stand behind everything they sell, for sure!   I don't think the Dixie Tuff Weekenders come with anything more than a 4' shortwall, but they are really great trailers. Bison trailers are very nice too. If you are able to go steel frame, with aluminum skin, that is where you save money. If your truck can pull it (and stop it, for that matter) why not??

Realistically, there are only two ways to make a trailer lighter; use less materials or substitute those materials with a more exotic, stronger replacement.

Do you really want a trailer that weighs a thousand pounds less than everyone elses, knowing it is that light because it is structurally lighter and probably less durable than the others? There is a common reason why so many different brands of trailers have similar weights.

I would be very weary of a manufacturer's product, that is made of the same materials and yet weighs 20 percent less than its competitors' items.

This reminds me of when Boeing was building the SST...I had a friend in Weights Engineering(W.E.)...and their job was to weigh all of the components that were going into the manufacture of the plane...Well, when Boeing management was concerned about the Concorde getting ahead...they put out a memo to the effect that W.E. would continue to add up the components but could NOT reject anything being overweight from original specs...Welllll...this went on until there was a General meeting of all of the groups involved with the SST and the chief of W.E. announced he had a modification that he wanted the group to consider...It was the in-air refueling mechanism as installed on the Convair B-58...The group asked what are you talking about....upon which the chief of W.E. pointed out that the SST would run out fuel between NYC and LONDON due to the increase in weight of current tentative acceptance of over-weight components...upon which ALL over-weight components were summarily rejected back to the vendors with orders to meet the original weight specs...Soon thereafter the project was cancelled...

We started out with smaller pickups and two horse bumper pull trailers and gas was cheap. Now we have gooseneck trailers, big trucks with the largest engines and diesel fuel is $3.50 +.

As our appetites are unquenchable, does this mean our trailers will soon have carbon fiber bodies over  titanium frames? Will we end up like the RV folks with  million dollar coaches, pulling $200,000 horse trailers?

Will the "back yard horse" and the "mom and pop" show person still exist? Will the government make any movement of any horse unlawful?

The future will certainly be interesting. We sure have a nack of messing things up for ourselves; I feel sorry for our children...

Very well said!  The saying " You get what you pay for" should be a reminder when purchasing a trailer.  We all know that aluminum is a much softer than steel, therefore when you look at an aluminum make sure it's build well enough to with stand the weight.  I know my horse is very special to me, and I would never want to see him get hurt because I decided to be cheap and put him in a soda can!

I had a 3 horse GN, with a 5' shortwall, No LQ, No Managers, No roof anything, All Aluminum, 6'9" wide, 7' tall trailer.

This bare trailer was 5600 lbs.  Add even just a Basic Weekend LQ and you will add another 1000 -2000 lbs. Think about Water tanks, Propane Tanks, Holding tanks, deep cycle batteries, cabinets, appliances and now you are talking 3000-4000lbs or more for the LQ conversion. Meaning your trailer will weigh 7500 to 11,000 lbs before you load in tack, horses etc.

So my answer is NO. I don't see anyway you can get what you suggested.
