Does anyone have any info on Green Lane Park in Pennsylvania?  I'm planning a weekend trip and would like some feedback on the campsites and trails.

thanks...

Wow... can't believe nobody in the Northeast Pa, MD, NJ area has anything to say about this campground - good or bad, so I'm just sending out another request.  I just want to be prepared for the best or worst.  Any info at all is much appreciated....

thanks

This is an overnight horse camping area in a Montgomery County PA park.  The website provides a sketchy map of the camp sites with two available covered stall areas.  I understand there's about 18 miles of trails throughout the park that are available to trail riders.  I've been to a state park up in NY state for overnight camping a couple of times.  From the limited info available on the website, it looks similar.  I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about the terrain, etc.

Anyway, our reservations are made for next week so unless the weather turns really bad, I'll be going.  I'll report back if anyone's interested.

Hey, nice catch, please let us know how it is. Looks like it would be about 3hrs drive for me, always looking for something to hit quickly on a weekend. Here's a link http://parks.montcopa.org/parks/cwp/view,A,1516,Q,26370.asp

Hi Jakey,

We rode at Green Lane yesterday. We parked at the Knight Road lot and rode part of the Red Trail for about 3 hours. It was one of the nicer parks in eastern PA or north Jersey. The terrain is varied and absolutely beautiful. We passed about 4 mountain bikers who, although they didn't stop or dismount, slowed down and were very polite and careful around the horses. The trails were wide enough that we could pass safely. We did not see the campground, but have heard it is just as nice as the rest of the park.

There is a book called "Ride Pennsylvania Horse Trails" by Carolyn Cook that I would highly recommend to you. There are actually two books- one for western PA and one for eastern PA. My friends and I have been using these books as our trail riding "bibles" for the past 4-5 years and highly recommend them. Please let us know what you think of the camping.

Good riding,

Cindy

Thanks Cindy...

The park ranger has sent some info and maps and we will be camping this weekend.  I will post to the website and let you all know how we liked it.

Camped at Green Lane Park this weekend.  It took about 2hrs 15 min to get there from Northern NJ.  The equestrian camp is beautiful with 10 sites spread out so that you are not on top of your neighbor.  There are two sections of covered tie-in stalls with about 10 stalls in each, but each campsite has a set of 2 tie in stalls, but not covered.  They are however, set into the trees that surround the camp so they are shaded and offer some protection in light to medium rain.  The site is very nicely maintained and the riding is good for a short camping trip.  Trails are well marked.

The biggest drawback is the water.  There is only one water source and it's a long walk to the campsites.  Email me privately if you want more info.
