Location: Fort Worth, Tx | I have a friend who does not have a trailer of her own but a tow vehicle. She would like to borrow my trailer to pick up a new horse, about 100 miles away. The insurance is already taken care of.Anyone know about how much should I charge for the loan of the trailer? |

Location: Mena, AR | I don't charge my friends to borrow my BP or flatbed when they need it. I don't loan out my LQ. But, no one is brave enough to ask me either. ;-)-Betty |

Location: West Coast | I wouldn't charge my friends to borrow my trailer, but I would have something in writing stating who pays to fix something if it gets broken. My horses never break anything in my trailer, but sure enough when I haul someone else's horse, they tear up the window screens, feed bags etc. |

Well...I'd say the price of the trailer... This is based the Exiss Trailer incident that was documented on this forum...quick synopsis...she borrowed a trailer and horse put a hole in the roof... YMMV!!!!! |

Location: columbia tn | same here i will lone my stock trailer to close friends (that will take care of it) for something like picking up a horse you can tell how they will treat your stuff by the way they treat theirs (usually) as far as the lq trailer no one would ask they already know the answer to that... i dont even haul other peoples horses in the lq trailer...dont want a pawing horse tearing up the inside of my trailer,,, and also its one thing for one of your horses to mess something up and a whole new ballgame if someone elses horse messes up the nice trailer because i should of not hauled it in the first place... happy trails |

I can deal with my horse damaging my trailer, but not with someone else's horse damaging my trailer.About 10 years ago I hauled a friend's mare in my 2 horse BP. That mare ripped the entire manager and side wall out of my trailer. GRRR!!! That "friend" never gave me a cent towards repair.  Caused a lot of problems. She said it was my fault for agreeing to haul her mare.  Maybe!?!?! HA! |

Location: Minnesota | Perhaps in lieu of asking for money, have her take the trailer in to have it powerwashed/cleaned before she returns it to you.. |

Location: MO in woods | Would also consider would your brakes/lights work with her rig?Also their driving skills since they don't have trailer????Why not do it for them for gas/time.Do talk n put in writing if (and could)damage is done to trailer etc???Best Luck....New horse might never been in trailer like yours before etc.... |

Location: Arkansas | Over the years, have learned with friends, easiest to just do the hauling for them, using the 20 stock trailer. I wouldn't mind loaning the stock trailer, but anyone I know with a gooseneck hookup has....a trailer. The bumper pull 2h is a handy little trailer, but not all horses have experience hauling in them (I drive like there is an open scalding hot cup of coffee in my lap!) and not all my friends have done any hauling. The LQ trailer is not loanable ! I have done the hauling for them also, using their trailer..... that is when you discover their spare is flat, and their wheel bearings needed attention! And sometimes by doing the hauling I am able to assist in the loading....not all horses load perfectly, as friends have discovered....If you must loan, having it brought home spit-shined is a good plan.... I like to be a good friend, it is hard to charge for the loan, not sure about the liabilites involved. I know I hate to borrow something, but if I do I tell myself the total cost to replace the trailer is what I am messing with and am prepared to cough up should something happen.....

Location: CA | Don't loan it. If you have the time, you could drive and haul for her. I like the idea of her pressure washing it for you. Some friends of mine (both of them) decided the one could borrow the other's rig. The trailer came back with the ladder all twisted and broken. Borrower said you could fix it with a couple of screws, owner wants it back the way it was. No longer friends. |
