Location: Claxton, Ga. | I am trying to get educated on freeze branding. Where can I get the brander made at and how do I check to see if anybody else is using that designed brand. |

Location: South Central OK | Find your local county extension agent, they can help you locate the brand registry for your area/state. I'd ask a large animal vet about the freeze brand, maybe you could even come and watch them do some. |

Said he has done many freeze brandings and only 2 micro chips in the last 10 years. He recommended freeze branding. I have designed a brand also. I don't know if I like it yet. Finding out about registering the brand is my next task.

Location: Northern, CA | Our state has a list of the registered brands, on line. When you register your brand, check to see how long the registration is good for. Many states, you need to pay yearly (and they don't send a reminder that it is due...you're supposed to remember). |

Location: Southern New Mexico | In some states, like Tx, the brands are registered by county. You have to register in every county in the state if you want that brand all to yourself. |

Location: CA | Too L - I see you're in CA also. What's the site where I can see all the brands? I've been trying to figure out my daughter's pony's brands for a while (and even tried to contact the local brand inspector) but haven't had any luck. Could you give me the address? Sorry, veering off topic! |

  Location: Northern, CA | Gemm,
Start looking at
http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/AHFSS/li/index.htm
You've probably already done this, if your horse was bought locally, ask the oldest rancher around if he recognizes the brand. Those guys generally know everything!

Location: CA | Too L - Thanks so much! It's amazing all of that is on-line. When we got this pony I looked for such a site and came up empty handed....don't know if I looked it up wrong or it wasn't available then. I called several times to our local brand inspector and never heard a word back. Thanks again! |
