Location: Fort Worth, Tx | It will NOT stop raining here in North Texas...went out to the barn last week and discovered mold on all my tack. I have cleaned and oiled it well but does anyone have any suggestions for preventing a "re-molding"? I don't want to bring it home every day, I'll forget to take it back to ride. We have hay growing...we just can't get it cut!!!! |

Location: Brooksville, Fl | If you have your own space and electricity in it, then I would recommend a de-humidifier. If mine goes out, my stuff molds but it doesn't mold when the humidity is low. Good luck, Tammy |

Location: Coconut Creek, FL | An option I use in my horse trailer as I don't have access to electric is damp-rid. I have it hanging in the LQ as well as the rear tack as I keep alot of stuff in it and Fla has tons of humidity year round. Vinegar will remove the mold without hurting the leather, but damp rid will keep it from coming back. They have these nice pouches you can hang or buy a container of it and then cartons to add to it. But it can spill and the water is thick and messy, so I prefer the pouches. |

Location: Small Town, Texas | NFT I totally understand I am starting to think we live in Seattle instead of North Texas! Although I have to say I love not having the heat. But I haven't been on a horse in over a month. Round pen, pasture and yard still just soggy.... Went in the barn yesterday and started pulling stuff out as we have found two snakes trying to find dry ground also....and our stuff is molded also! YUK! Hang in there, it will be dry soon....I hope! |

Location: KY | We put a 110 window unit ac in our tack room.....solved the humidity and mold problem....now that it is after the 4th of July, should be able to get a unit for about $100 (or maybe even less) at your local discount store. That way you don't have to dump the water from a dehumidifer unit, which can be a pain esp if you forget to dump it...... |

Location: PA | Just cleaning the tack is not good enough. You have to kill the mildew spores which get into the leather. You can use vinegar and water and then condition the leather or Leather Therapy makes a product just for this. But you need to keep the leather in a drier place to prevent this. |

Location: Mena, AR | Do you dilute the vinger or use it right out of the bottle? Can you use it on rough cut as well as smooth leather? I cleaned the mold off my tack and have been running a small fan in my tack room and that seems to slow it down quite a bit. Thx, Betty |

Location: PA | Dilute it like 1:! ratio and use white vinegar. I have never used it on rough out leather. It would be best to take a stiff brush to the rough out leather, outside of course, (No need to spread those spores around!) to get most of the mildew off first. Then rub it with a clean terry towel dipped in the vinegar and water, cleaning the towel with fresh water in between. Be aware though that if you do this, it will change the rough out leather! Maybe you should try just the stiff brush and sprying the rough out with Lysol aresol. That might kill the spores without wrecking the texture of the rough out. You can also contact the saddle maker to see what they would suggest. |
