We are the proud and mostly clueless owners of a new Trails West Classic II 2-horse BP. The forums here were very helpful in researching brake controllers, and our new Prodigy works beautifully. I'd like opinions on two other matters:

1) We have a tiny UPS-type sealed battery for running the dome/outdoor lights for our trailer, and (presumably) the breakaway switch's triggering of the brakes. What do you recommend we do to keep it charged?

a) Take it out and charge from house current,
b) hook up a solar trickle charger, or
c) put a cheap trickle charger in line with the hot wire from the tow vehicle?

2) Our horse is huge, so we'd like to rig up a way to hold the divider in the open position. Would a D-ring (on a plate) attached to the frame be the way to go? If so, what size/type screws do you recommend? It seems like there should be a lot of force on it during cornering.

Congrats on the new trailer.
That little battery is just for the break away brakes. Doesn't hold enough charge for anything else. The lights are probably running off the truck SO DON'T LEAVE ANY LIGHTS ON WHEN YOU GO OUT TO RIDE, Or, unplug your truck. You can rig a full sized battery in the Dressing Room and run a charge line to it, also.
