We recently purchased a 2 horse BP alum trailer from a dealer recently.  We found out later that it has been used to haul hay to the pastures.

It seems to pull OK but should we be concerned that we bought a bad trailer?

Thanks for your reply.  Just wanted to make sure that we should not be concerned.  We read a previous post about a pulling a trailer over dirt or bumpy roads how that can damage the frame.

I pull my trailers over all kinds of dirt and gravel roads. My trailers have held up just fine.

I've seen lots of folks out picking up bales of hay in their horse trailers. Most hay fields are smoother than the dirt roads I drive.

We once had a 4H BP WW trailer that we moved household belongings in.I've moved a lot of stuff in my trailer,tall furniture pieces,mattresses,ect.I'm glad that I had them.

Our gravel roads are like washboards in places.Altho I don't like having to pull our LQ trailer over them because of all of the electronic things inside,we don't blare out fast,and our trailers have held up fine.We hauled a lot of hay in our stock trailers and 2H both when it looked like rain might be on the way.

Long as your trailer doesn't have major rust or corrosion,I wouldn't worry about it  at all.

They must have been drag racing then.  I can't imagine any pasture or dirt/gravel road taken at a safe speed that would ruin the frame of a trailer/truck.

Set your mind at ease ... It would be hard to  load a 2H BP trailer with hay weighing more than a couple of horses.   Even if they got 40+ bales aboard, the weight is evenly spread unlike a horse.  Any damage from driving in a field is readily apparent. 

The only thing I would worry about would be bent axels.  Watch for uneven tire wear.  But basically, I wouldn't worry about it either....
