Location: Alabama | I've insulated my gooseneck floor and was originally planning to put 1/2" OSB board over that, then a piece of carpet, and then my matress but now I'm wondering if I really need the wood over the insulation or could I just put the carpet directly over the insulation and then my matress on top? My trailer is just 6 feet wide so the matress is going to take up all of the gooseneck floor area except maybe 6-8" in the front part of the nose. Is there some important reason why I would need to use wood over the insulation?

Location: Burlington, Kentucky | I put down 1/2" insulation in the nose and then 3/8" plywood on top so that I wouldn't crush the insulation and I am building cabinets in the very front of the nose. I then screwed down the plywood and insulation to hold it firmly in place. I will then come and wrap the carpet over the plywood. My father-in-law wrapped the carpet directly over the 1" insulation(firmer than 1/2") and he has not had any issues. The interior is about 7 years old.-side tip-Do what Maccwall said at his website, and use the carpet you pull out of the nose as a template. That worked great for me. Only had to cut once and it fit perfectly (plywood and insulation). |

Location: Burlington, Kentucky | Oh yea I forgot to mention. Your truck has to haul the 1/2" plywood as well. Keep in mind the weight of materials. |

Location: Lone Oak, Tx | The wood will also add to the R factor of the insulation that you have already put down not to mention the fact that it will give stability to the insulation underneath ad not cause the insulation to get crushed. When insulation gets crushed and compacted it loses it's insulating properties. You don't really need it if you don't want it and it does add to the weight abeit not too terribly much though. Depending on what type you used and how much your mattress moves around as to how much you'll tear up the insulation underneath.
