I belong to a small Saddle Club in Oden Kansas and we used to do a rodeo to make money for the club but the arena closed. What kind of fundraisers do your saddle clubs do? Of do you have any ideas. They have to be Equine related. Thanks

One of our most successful ones was to do a used tack/show clothes "garage sale". Everyone brought their stuff already priced and the club took a commission on everything sold. We did it at a show so we had ready-made customers. Don't know how dressed up your kids get for a show, but maybe tack would still work. Sponsor a clinic-for instance have a local vet to talk about basic horse care and a county extension agent to talk about horses and/or training, charge a little to get in ($3-5?). Hire out at a local horse show-let the kids sell themselves as "slaves" at an event to muck stalls, walk horses, various chores. Run a concession stand at other area rodeos or ropings-the kids could go out among the cowboys with cold drinks to sell at an amount where they wouldn't have to make change very often. We did this with fair success-I'm in Southeast Kansas.

This may sound weird but  thereare pony rides ( you leading the horses of course).  Just like almost like a small horse festival. Have food and drinks available to  b bought. SOme face painting, pony rides and what not. Also pictures work well also. Get either a poloroid or digital cam and take pics of people sitting on the horse. May seem silly but  some parents would enjoy  having a picture of their child. If you use  the digital cam  its very cheap   and you can just print out the photos... add borders or whatever on them and make some really nifty pics as well as some profit. ANywho just a though ttyl.

Do a budget; then divide the cost among the members. The previous suggestions were quite good; however, I find it extremely offensive for others to ask me to support their activities.
If you are putting on horse shows, then do a budget and set the admission and entry fees at a reasonable price that will cover the expenses with a little left over as seed money for the next show.

I don't mean to be a party pooper but there are liability issues with food and pony rides. I LOVE the ideas and previous clubs I belonged to did great with them. Later these issues popped up and we avoided them though you may choose to do them. Just some info.

A tack sale worked for us but what workd the best was selling BOXES of candy bars. It brought in a lot of money because we could sell them to everyone and at work. We did this a lot!

We have an annual dance as a fundraiser. We sell raffle tickets before the dance (donated items are the prizes) and we sell them at the door also. Tickets are 6 for $5.00 or 1.00 each. We use a % of the profits for our annual scholorship and the rest is for our club.

We did Judged Pleasure Rides for a number of years. They are popular in this area. Low overhead, a fun day, and profits the first year were about $400.00 The best was $850.00. It was definitely growing in popularity each year. The club lost riding grounds, resulting in it being discontinued. You can obtain 1 day insurance riders for liability. Some clubs use Civil War battlefield equestrian trails, and donate a portion to the maintaince of the grounds. Others have used state parks.

If you have a very well broke smaller horse, and access to a cowboy costume, a local photographer here goes to the preschools and takes pictures of the kids on his big pony, in cowboy or cowgirl costume - it is very cute and parents cannot resist once they see those pictures :)   This photographer now has a list of preschools he goes to every year, like clockwork.  If you had the equipment or could get someone to volunteer time and or camera, it might be fun.  I realize this also has the potential of being a complete mess... it is something horse related though, and might be a novel way to raise money.

Some of the clubs around here clean stalls for donations, at some of the bigger equine events, at the organized trail rides and such. Get with the event organizers and have them post it on their flyers or bills(if it an english show) that your club will be there to help with different things, such as cleaning stalls, fetching water, cooling horses, running for drinks, ect. If you guys have a club T-SHirt or something that will make you stand out then wear them so people will know who to ask for erons.
