Location: Northwest Indiana | Liz, Since your vehicle does not have a tow package then it is probably not wired to have a trailer plug in the back of the truck. http://www.etrailer.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E&Product_Code=ETBC7&Category_Code=BC This is what you will need to install for the brake controller to work. It wires the truck, installation is not very difficult, but if you don't know much about wiring you might want to take it to a hitch shop to have them install. |

Location: Northern IN. | I agree, if you don't know what you are doing, best to take it to a shop. Brake controlers have to be done RIGHT, could be the difference between life and death. They have a certain way to be grounded, have to get power from a certain place, have to have a breaker or fuse put in hot wire feed, and then you have to run the 12V hot wire back to the plug along with the brake wire and get that hooked up correctly, don't forget that. Now don't forget all of this can be done different ways, but to be done RIGHT, there are certain ways to do things. Good luck and don't be too worried about price, a good trailer tech. can do this in his/her sleep, they'll have 'er whiped out in no time and cost should be minimal. I use to be a tech. at a R.V./trailer dealer and we'd put a goose-neck/fifth-wheel hitch in and wire brake control in 3-3 1/2 hrs. helps when you've done it a bunch and already know exactly which tools you'll need ahead of time. Good luck and I'll talk to y'all later... |

I know certain trucks you just plug in the adapter and the prodigy is hooked up. Is there a place under the dash to plug in the 3 ft. adapter cable if It did not come with a tow package or can it be wired without having to run the B.C. wires to the back of the truck? try asking over here, http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php it is possible the wires are already there. just tucked up somewhere. |
