Depends on what you are looking for. It is a very big ride. Sometimes over 3000 people there and lot and lots of partying. The showers aren't very clean and usually run out of hot water. There is alot of pretty trails and the river is very nice. If you are wanting a quieter, cleaner camp with the same trails try Cold water ranch. They have cabins, rv hookups and stalls.

I went through that area when they didn't have a trail ride but were getting ready for one. I  wanted to camp and put up a horse overnight. They weren't very accommodating, I offered to pay them but they just didn't try to help me. I saw the camp and think if you enjoy camping with people within arms distance from you and lots of partying that is the place for you. But if you want a good ride and a relative quiet camp don't go there. They do have a lot of trails in that area but I would recommend a different camp.

You might want to check and see whether or not the week you want to go is already full.  In most cases, you will want to get your site reserved and your stalls.  We have gone for holiday rides and it was alright.  Lots of parties and wild nights.  We went to ride and had a good time.  You will want to camp with someone you know.  Most everyone groups together.  Some groups are wilder than others.  Around here, we have lots that go and take a trailer and no horse just to stay and go to the dances and party all night long.  The trails are nice.  Some can be challenging with the rock.  Just as in every camp, you can make the least and most out of what you want to do.

Been going ot the Oct ride for 24 yrs and I am not a party person. I've had the same campsite and stalls for 20 yrs. There is some partying going on but you don't have to be in the middle of it. I think they have a waiting list for this ride. You might try the Nov. ride or the Apr and May they are not as crowded. The thing I like about it is that there is so much to do and the riding is great. There is 2 western stores, Hart dealer, Exiss dealer, Cm dealer, 4 Star dealers with in a mile. I have been to Buffalo, Birdsong, Bucksnort, Big Sandie, Loretta Lynn, Upper Jacks Fork (now out of business) but the only two I go to every year are CCTR and the ride at Myrtle Beach. If you are going to CCTR Iwould reccomend have your own shower and john they have them but they aren't the greatest and not likely to improve much. I think Jim wants everyone to have their own facilities.

If you like crowds, parties and drunks, it's the place to go. Quite time is not enforced. They party all night, riding their horses thru camp, drunk as skunks and no one says anything. Then come early moring they turn in and sleep all day, until it's party time again.

Just because you reserve a camp site doesn't mean you'll be the only ones using the site. We reserved a site, only to find out 6 other had also resevered the same site. We were told, that's just the way it is.

I had gone 14 years in row, until this year and never have I seen or been bothered by what you have described. They do party, but rarely do you hear anyone out of hand after dark. They do ride at night some, I think you must have been out in the overflow area.

I think it all depends on which ride you go to.  The August ride is known to be the "wildest" week.  We have several couples that go in October and they say it is a different place compared to August.

I've been going for 29 years and I think it is a great trail ride. It was our family vacation for years. My 2 kids grew up there. We made a lot of friends from all over the US. There is a lot of partying but it is much quieter than it used to be. Jim does a good job of insuring the quiet hours. He doesn't allow a lot of vehicle traffic at night so that it is safe for the folks to ride their horses around camp. The shower house is the same as ever but it hasn't stopped people from coming back. There is plenty to do and the trails are great. I've been April, May, June, August and October and I can't decide which one I like the best. April and May are nice because they are less crowded. August is great because of the river although it's been hot enough that in June you can use the river too. October with it's cooler weather and pretty folliage makes an awesome ride. On a scale of 1 to 10....I give CCTR a 10!

I've been there 9 yrs for the June ride.  I've seen Jim throw people out.  He gives them 30 min. to pack and get out. They enforced the quite time when I've been there.  We usually camped with the same people year after year. Friends we met there from MO.  Had a great time and will be going back this year after a few years away.

If you prefer smaller quieter atmosphere try Big Creek.  If you're looking for lots of noise, action and other things to do besides trail ride and relax then CCTR is the one.  Riding is great at both places.
