Hey all- Had an interesting conversation with a dealer.  Was close to buying a Kiefer, Hawk or Exiss (2 horse slant bp) when this guy claims these are 'throwaway' brands and started pushing 4-Star.

I know 4-Stars are built very well but are they THAT much better than competition?  I had decided alum. over steel frame with a rumber floor and liked the fiberglass roof but now feel I'd be getting something 'pretty' that may not be durable.  Anyone out there with an old 4-Star, Kieffer, Hawk or Exiss- how do they hold up?

4-Star aren't anywhere NEAR as good as "They" say.
I say that without knowing which "They" you are talking about, but it doesn't matter.

4-Star are WAYyyy more betterer than what whoever says they are (which they ?).

EBY and Jamco are in the same "Class".
I'll be re-evaulating this opinion next month at Equine Affaire (-:

Had an older 1988- 4 star and it was a better built trailer compared to my friends 2000 and newer Featherlites, Sundowners, Keifers and Exxiss.  Not that their trailers were not good, they just didnt seem to be made from as thick materials and welds, window frames, etc were not as strong.  BUT when looking for a new trailer a few months ago, I seemed to notice the trailers being built now are not nearly what they used to be as far as thickness of aluminum, etc.  This includes 4 star.  The main thing is no matter what brand you decide on, find a company and dealer that have a good track record in case anything does go wrong.  Even a 250,000 dollar Ferrari car can break down but you want a company/dealer that will not leave it on the side of the road.

Well... if I may, my two cents!  I have friends with, Exiss, Featherlite, Trailswest, Silverlite and several other brands.  If any one of those folks GAVE me one of their trailers, (FREE) I would quickly take it and trade it on a 4 Star!  There that D A M N good!

Funny story;
(Ignore this if you think its just TOO off topic, or likely to start other brand name flames);

Several years ago a friend of mine "WON" a new Harley Damagebomb M/C in some sort of a raffle. On CAREFUL inspection of what he received he noticed that the small print under the model name said, "or other Motorcycle of equal retail value" (paraphrased), to be redeemed at any authorised HD dealership.
So,,,,,
He found a dealership that also carried another brand and cashed in his voucher on THAT.
Well, it was funny at the time and I still chuckle 20+ years later.

It is the dealer that you buy from that makes the difference.  All trailers are very close but the dealer who stands behind the product makes all the difference in the world.  You could buy a 4-Star that had a few issues (because it happens) and with a sorry dealer you may be in trouble.  Call Don and talk to him first before you purchase. Give him a chance you will be impressed.....

4 Stars are great. I have had them since 1993. I have never needed a dealer except to order grates for the windows. I think the quality service department at 4 Star must be great.

The dealer only makes a difference if/when you need to fall back on them.
The experience of 4-Star owners seems to indicate that you don't need a dealer. For the things that I have needed to repair (or work on) I have contacted the factory directly and ordered parts. My dealer is 50 miles away, hauling the trailer there for trivial stuff and leaving it would result in 200 miles. There's nothing much on a 4-Star that homeowner skills can't fix (-:

I had a older 4 Star (99) with air ride, I did have some trouble with that, BUT it was because of the Arizona heat!!!!  I now have a 2001 3 horse, that has NEVER, EVER been to the dealers for any problems!!!

I use this trailer!  I haul every weekend, several times a year to TX, OK, Not once has it let me down.

You get what you pay for, period!

Oh and Reg, loved your story, lol

This is my second 4-Star and I love them. I can't afford to buy new so I have always bought used and I have never needed any work on either that couldn't be accomplished at Camping World. My friends are on their second 4-
Star and no problems. The guy I purchased my last 4-Star from has owned several 4-Stars.
