We have a Platinum Coach and when we drain the black and gray water tanks we have to lay on the ground and get part way under the trailer then reach way up under the trailer to open the valves.  A friend with a Sundowner just has to stand next to their trailer and reach just under next to the the side of  the trailer to open the valve as their tank openings aren't so far back under the trailer.

Is there any way to retrofit the tank openings so that we don't have to lay on the ground and practically get under the trailer to drain the tanks?   Is there something we can put on our tank openings so that they are easier to reach to open and drain?

I don't have a LQ trailer. However, from reading other posts it would seem that you don't have to worry as much about dragging your tanks off on railroad tracks, ditches, humps, etc. I had a friend who drug her tanks off on a RR track on her 2nd trip. She had the trailer retrofitted to make the tanks higher and "harder" to get to.

I agree, it would be a pain to have the tanks set up this way.

I would think you could go to an RV store and get some additional pipe and new values to extend your openings so the values are closer to the side of the trailer. There is a certain type of glue for the black tanks, so be sure & get that along with the pipes. You should be able to remove the existing values pretty easily with a hack saw.

Or take it back to the dealer and ask them to take care of it for you if that's a choice.

Good luck!

Try going to an Rv store and get a valve extension handle .They should run about 12 dollars each and will adjust from 10-12 inches. Or go to a hardware store an get some 1/4 in. all thred and a couple female adapters and some metal tie down clamps to keep the extension handles from draging .  Screw it all together and you try to bent the allthred to get the handles where you want them.

My trailer has the valves right at the edge of the trailer, nice and handy, and of course this makes them the lowest point on the underside of the trailer as well.  There is a big 'ole skid plate welded all the way around the valves to keep them safe from being drug off.   I really like this feature.
