Just experienced this problem with my GN trailer. I had only gone a 1/4 of a mile and was exiting the fairgrounds when I heard  a  clunk from my trailer and when I pulled out onto the road and started to accelerate my truck was struggling and I heard this loud!!! noise likes tires squealing and realized my brakes had locked up. Luckily I had a friend hauling their horses behind me and he had me back my trailer up and they unlocked but as soon as I pulled ahead they locked up again. I ended up unplugging my trailer plug from my truck which meant no lights or brakes and it was a complete downpour, not good! My friend followed me home, 10 miles with no problems but I am wondering what the heck is going on with my trailer? Suggestions would be great. Otherwise I am taking it in to be looked at this week as I have a 10 hour roundtrip  haul to pick up a horse later this week.

Thanks all!

You may want to have it looked at by someone who knows whats up, it's hard to diagnose over the internet.

Could be a bad brake controller or a wire loose or ?

Thanks for the post but without more info it is hard to tell .

MIfarmbabe,

If taking the plug loose from the truck solved the problem then that should narrow down the choices of whats wrong.I'd say to start with to check the plug itself for a loose wire across the electric brake terminal from another source such as the running lights or 12v. feed. This could easily happen if one of these wires came loose inside the plug.Next I'd check to see if the 12v.feed from the brake switch has became stuck causing the brake box to stay activated.Last I'd say that it maybe a defective brake controller. This would be fairly easy to detect if you can find the proper wire or terminal that feeds the electric brakes from the truck then just see if its constantly hot. hth.

Had that happen once.Had been heavy rain and loose wires in the trailer plug. Some wiggle and was ok until I had a chance to redo the wiring going into the pins.

Well brakes are fixed now on my trailer. Took the trailer in today to be looked at. Turns out that it wasn't electric at all. They found and figured out from my description of the problem that the brakes were out of alignment and needed to be adjusted. Was no big deal and there was no charge and brakes are working as they should now. However I did forget to ask why they were out of alignment, but guessing an over time thing?

Thanks for all of the suggestions and ideas of what may have been wrong.
