Location: Ann Arbor, MI | I had my trailer dealer install a WDH on my trailer. It does seem to pull much better. But, when I am hitching up, one of the bars is consistently quite a bit tighter than the other. I am on level ground. I called the dealer, and the guy that I talked to said not to worry about this. Well, I worry about everything, so what up? Colleen |

Hi and Welcome to the Forum.
It is hard to say without actually SEEING it.
As a sanity check try swapping the spring bars from side to side, they should be symetrical, i.e. no specific left one and right one. If the problem goes from one side to the other you COULD have a bad spring bar.
If the problem stays on the side where it was you probably have an imbalance somewhere else (bad or poor installation, bad part, etc.).
A couple of things to double check;
Level ground side to side - for both the truck AND trailer axles.
Truck aligned straight in-line with the trailer.
Snap-up brackets are both all the way down onto the trailer's tongue rails.
The little U-bolts that go through the end of the chain and fasten it to the end of the spring bars, might be different lengths. Also check that the chains are straight, no kinked over links.
Let us know how it goes - and Happy Horse Trailering (-:

Location: sc | do you mean after you hook the first bar the other one is harder/tighter? if so that is normal. |

Location: Ann Arbor, MI | I have tried swapping the bars from side to side. I believe it is always the right side that is tighter than the left. I don't think the order of hooking them up is a factor--for example, when I go to UNhitch it, I crank up the jack to take the pressure off, and the chain on the left side is floppy while the right one is tight and needs the pry bar to get it off. If there is some type of imbalance going on is it going to have an effect on handling, etc? Thanks. |
