Location: MO | You should be fine. I have an 03 Dodge 2500 cummins & auto trans that I pull a 34 ft 3 horse w/ 10' LQ. We weighed in at 23,000 on a CAT scale at Love's.
Just came back from Wyoming and the truck had no problem pulling the load. Except brakes on a long downhill 7% grade. I'll be looking into an exhaust brake before I drive in the Rocky Mountains again. You can pull a lot more weight that you can stop.
We've been in the Black Hills, Ozarks, Smokies and Appalachians we had no problems. I'd prefer diesel to gas. But your gas 2500 should handle TN and AL all right.
