Location: Dallas, Texas | Hello,I am hoping that since this list has tons of people with experience in moving horses all over the country that I can get some advice/opinions. I just purchased a 4 yr. old Andalusian gelding in Oregon, I live in Dallas, TX where is is VERY HOT now! Of course Oregon is quite cool now! Is it safe to bring this horse to TX now? Will he acclimate to the extreme weather change? I have a hauler scheduled to pick him up tomorrow (Monday 7/17). What are your thoughts? Thank you! Deirdre dastx@sbcglobal.net |

Location: North Texas | We have brought a couple to North Texas from cooler climes and they made the trip and transition just fine. Others at the stable where we board ours have done the same. Of course, none of the horses are really "perky" in their stalls with this heat . . . even with the fans going all the time. When they are out in the pastures they move around like its 70 degrees! Where are you planning on keeping him? Not in the Park Cities I suspect.

Location: Tampa, FL | I have found the biggest issue with bringing horses into the heat is how well they sweat (or don't). If they don't sweat well in the beginning it takes a long time to start. I always start the northern transplants on a supplement called "One A/C" and a beer in both the AM and PM. I do the beer until I see they are sweating properly and I use all of the "One A/C" (about 3-4 weeks). I have found I would rather spend the money on the one-time supplement than waiting a month to ride a horse that isn't sweating. |

Location: Danielsville Georgia | I brought two from middle Nebraska where its HOT to Athens Georgia where its HOT but less wind and more humid.These two girls acted and LOOKED like they had been in a fire the first week.SWEAT oh my and lots of it.They seem to be better now going into the third week.Added Moormans Sure Gro minerals to their grain twice daily. |

Location: PA | Keep fans on them and maybe hose them off if they look very sweaty. If you do hose them off, make sure you scrap the excess water off of them . They will cool down better. |

Location: MasonDixon | We brought one down from Missoula, Mt. to northwest Arkansas the last of July. We watched her closely the first 2-3 week's. Not for sweating, but for colic. She coliced at about 2 week's. Not serious. We were able to keep her comfortable until the episode was over. |
