Location: Kansas | Wooden backed or otherwise? I generally use a grooma comb or something with teeth to pull out all the hair I can, then soak in warm water/shampoo. If you are worried about an infection or fungus you might want to add some bleach. Rinse well, air dry bristles up. If you have wooden handles you won't want to soak them as long, same with very expensive brushes. |

Location: MI | I have soaked mine in bleach water also. Then I towel dry as well as possible and air dry. Gives me a good feeling! |

Location: Delta Junction, Alaska | Both the bleach and the soap are great ideas. Just make sure you use a horse / animal soap. Others are not the correct PH balance and can bother some horses. I love Orvus (sp) paste it works well in cold and warm water and has never bothered any of my animals from alapcas, dogs, horses, steers heck even cats. Great stuff! |

Location: Grabiteville,sc | LoL call me crazy but we used to just use an anti bacterial dish soap to wash em out with and well we never really had a prob with hair in them it usually came out when the brush was actually washed otherwise we just took a comb to em to get the hair out. We also washed them after each grooming. HMm anywho so far hasn't bothered any horses I know of. Then again i haven't really done much with horses in the last year..lol not since i had to sell mine. |

Location: michigan | I used dish soap, hand soap ( liquid) human hair soap, whatever. Oddly enough, none of my horses reacted to the brushes in a negative way. Warm water, a buckets, add soap and brushes. Swish, soak, remove, let air dry. nothing to it. |
